We will be staying in the Poly and my family wants to go to the AKL one day to see what it is like and possibly see the Savanas. What is the easiest way to do this? I know we cannot drive over since we are not staying there. Thanks in advance!

If you have a car, yes, you may drive over there to check it out.
Using Disney Transport, you have a few options. Basically, you need to go to a Hub, and transfer. The two hubs that would work best would be Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. Use Downtown Disney if all other hubs are closed.
