Getting from place to place in WDW

For someone who's never been, how do you find the best ways to get from one spot to the next? On our arrival day I was planning on making an ADR for Chef Mickey's for our family for dinner as a nice kick off to our first WDW trip. Starting at POP we need to get to the Contemporary and don't really have plans to go to any parks that day. Is there a map or guide that gives you ways to get everywhere?

we wont go without a car, so we just drive there and back.

but if you have to use the buses. you would have to take a bus to the MK and then monorail over. which actually isnt too much of a hassle. the contemporary is the first stop of the monorail.

sorry i just reread that youve never been. chef mickeys is a fabulous idea!! i wont go to WDW without going there!!
when you take the bus youll get off at the magic kingdom gate, you dont have to enter mk. you have 2 options, you can walk or take the monorail. i wouldnt walk especially with kids. when you get off your bus if facing the mk the monorail entrande will be to your right. just walk to the right and youll see it, cant really miss it.

If you have a car, I would drive. If you don't have plans for the day as the PP said, just take a bus to MK or TTC and then catch the monorail or walk from MK. If you do make plans for that day, I would catch a cab as it does take some time to grab a bus then a a monorail.

sorry, me again, yes i am really this annoying

for other stops its pretty easy. whenever you are leaving your resort you can take a bus to any park or downtown. they will all be clearly labeled. if you need to get to another resort thats the only time it gets trickey. if its a momorail resort you go to MK and use the monorail. if its another resort you would have to go to the closest park to either your resort or your destination and then switch to the bus going back to that resort.
i wouldnt really suggest going to too many non monorail resorts, it can be very time consuming.

You also could go to the ticket and transortaion center and get on the monorail from there to the contemporary, just make sure you get on the resort monorail. I tried to avoid going to the parks if we were not planning on going in because it could cause a meltdown for a small child.

Thanks everyone. We are trying to just stick with park dining due to it being our first trip and getting what we can in. Chef Mickey's is the only one that's not in a park that I thought would really be a no miss this time. Hopefully we'll have plenty more trips to check out other resort dining.

just so the op isnt confused, if you want to get to the ttc you would have to drive. the buses dont go to the ttc like they used to, they now go straight to the mk.
i understand the melt down thing, but if the kids have never been to the mk, they wont have any idea whats beyond that gate
