can you help me??
we are planning our first family trip to Disneyland!!!! Yeah!!!
As an independant adult, I have been to EuroDisney and loved loved loved it...

We are staying in a hotel next to legoland (yes, we have divided loyalities).
and want to visit San Deigo (Sea World and San Deigo Zoo) before travelling to Anaheim and Disneyland

Can you recommend a way of doing this???

We thought we would hire a car for 3 days, do two trips to San Deigo (from our hotel by Legoland) and then drive to Anaheim... but I have had no success in finding a rental car firm who will do an early morning pick up at Carlsbad, and a late afternoon drop off at Anaheim... [google has not been my friend *sob*]

Two questions:
1. Is this [rental car] the best way to do it - or should we be exploring something else [can you suggest what should be]
2. Can you recommend a rental car firm???

I would just rent a car from the airport for the whole time. You'll need a way to get from the airport to Carlsbad, from Carlsbad to the zoo, Carlsbad to anaheim, etc. You noramlly get a discount for a weekly rental. Were you plannig on staying in Anaheim, or just in Carlsbad the whole time?

I would think that would be stressful dealing with traffic.

We are planning to use the car to get from Carlsbad to the Zoo... and then carlsbad to Anaheim...

However, we have a package which includes a transfer from LAX to Carlsbad - and we will be there for four days - so don't need a car during that time...

Nor will we need a car once we have got to Anaheim...

For $10 you can take a cab to the train station in Carlsebad near LL.

For about $8 each take the Coaster to the Downtown SD station or Old Town.

Now the tricky part. It's about $10 cab fare to the zoos from these stations. So you could go zoo and back on the cab. or send someone on the SD troller back up the tracks to the trolley station which is between Old Town and Downtown. That trolley station is in the exact middle of many rental lots that serve the airport. So with a block walk you can get to Thirfty, Dollar, Alamo, Enterprice and many non national chains.

That way you would have a car and somewhere to put luggage.

Also Dollar has a location on Harbor across from the parks and Alamo has a location in DTD, to return cars. The lots are remote but the shuttle will get you to those locations.

We too are going to Legoland for a couple of days before Disneyland. :cool1: DH found a discount code from Hertz for one-way rental, and decided we'll fly to John Wayne, pick up a rental car at the airport for Carlsbad, returning the car to the Hertz location by the Marriott/Convention Center in Anaheim, which is only about 10 minutes walk to our hotel. There is an Alamo in DTD, but the cost of one-way return was way higher.

PM me if you're interested in the one-way return discount code from Hertz.
