A couple of weeks ago dd was putting some fabric paint on an apron she made and when I was doing the laundry I noticed some fabric paint on the elbow of a shirt. A VERY NICE SHIRT - like a shirt to wear to church!!!!!! I was steaming mad. I tried scrapping it off, no luck. And this was AFTER it had come out of the dryer.

So does anyone have any ideas of what I might be able to try without damaging the shirt??? It's one of those newer silkier type of "cool" shirts the kids are wearing these days.

I've never found anything that worked. :(

I understand how you feel. Years ago, DS wore a new shirt to church & they did a project with fabric paint w/o smocks & w/o telling the parents! We offered to provide old T-shirts for them to use in the future, but were ignored. About 10 yrs later they did the same thing with DD's class! Sometimes you have to wonder about people!

Oops, sorry! Didn't mean to go off complaining! Back to the topic....

If it went through the dryer, it has probably been set in. You could try using a fabric paint that matches the color of the shirt to cover up the spot, I have done this in the past.

That's a good idea Twigs, except it's stripped. I told her it was a good thing she paid for the shirt and not me because she would be paying me now. I think this was a lesson in her taking care of things, which she has not been good at. She's 15 and it's WAY beyond time she begin. It was a fav shirt too even though she hadn't had it very long.

Thanks guys

Same problem here, too. My daughter got paint on her cheerleader outfit last year, and I tried everything I knew to do....no luck! It was a very conspicuous spot of red that didn't match the color of her suit. I even tried something that is specially formulated to remove dried paint (senior moment here, can't remember the name!), scrubbed with a toothbrush and laundry stain remover, d-solv-it-----you name, I tried it. Thankfully, the stain was close to the edge of her skirt. All I knew to do at that point was just fold it under and hem it. The bad part was those skirts are already too short, and this made it even worse! She didn't have that red stain showing anymore though.

Good luck and let us know if you find anything that works. I think once it goes into the dryer, it probably is set in the cloth. I just couldn't believe the trouble I had with what I thought was a watercolor paint stain from sign-painting. I'm sure it must have been acrylic.

You might try contacting the paint company to see if they have any paint removers.

Rit makes some products to remove dyes but I don't know if they would work on paints.
