Getting Close to Single Digits and My Wife Thinks I'm Obsessed

My vacation officially starts the day before Thanksgiving so we have time for all of those last minute things that seem to come up, so I'll be into single digit waiting time tomorrow. I started planning for this cruise about two months ago and my wife thinks I'm becoming obsessed with it (I think it's the 4" wide file that I have). I figured the logistics of six children deserves a bit of attention (five of them have never flown before, I figure one will bring a squirt gun and we'll be detained at the Indianapolis Airport, we need to make sure that as we leave port one of them isn't waving to us FROM the dock). Does anyone else plan this much or am I being a too-nervous first-timer?

Curt, you'd be better moving your post to the dis forum this is for cruise meets, however no you're not alone, there are lots of planners on these boards, don't forget to take time to relax and enjoy the cruise even if all doesn't go quite to plan. ;)

Sorry, I was on the wrong screen when I posted this. Now I can't figure out how to delete it or get it moved.

sounds like you are at the right place now. No you are not obsessed or crazy, planning is part of the fun...... at least for me. Enjoy and make sure everyone is waving from the same side of the water.:teeth:

I agree, love the planning. I am on my 3rd time out w/ DCL (2 on Magic , this one on the Wonder) and I ama in the thoes of micro planning as I type. I only have 3 kids but this time am going alone (DH is trapped at work) so I am a bit nervous too. It will all be WONDERful or MAGICal. Promise.

Don't worry - it was moved for you.....

Some of us have been planning cruises 18 months in advance - or even longer..... so don't worry - you are definitely not obsessing.....

But I agree - Dont' forget to have fun.... make the plans that you want - but remember that things happen - just make the best of your time... and you'll have a great time on DCL....

Oh good! I don't feel so bad. I planned our first trip to WDW for a year before hand.

This will be my first cruise and I'm 13 months out (our 25th wedding anniversary is Sept. 19, 2005). Of course, we've talked about taking a cruise for 25 years... but I've just started the actual planning.

Obsessed? You can't have enough planning!

I started planning our DCL/WDW in Jan. It has been many long months and now we are comming down to only 19 days! It is really hard to believe! I am a crazy planner too! My husband thinks I am CRAZY! I have done so much planning and research and he has done nothing! He does not read my books or the web sites. I can get him to talk about the trip..sometimes. He just tells me "I just want to be surprised!!" How crazy is that??? He has no clue about anything. I feel like I am in this myself. He is the kind of guy who can wait all day and night on Christmas to open his gifts. Not me!!!

I confess that I too have spent many hours on this board and the passporter board getting as much info as possible. We leave the Saturday after Thanksgiving - on the Magic. Is that the cruise you are on? We are leaving a few days before and heading over to Discover Cove for Thanksgiving Day. We also plan to spend one day at MGM and Friday at Kennedy Space Kennedy. I have only two kids and I am already planning how many pair of shorts etc to pack. I think most of us here start to plan early and hope that we can learn from others expertise or experience with something. I hope this first cruise experience makes my DH and DS's decide they want to go back every year.

We did a 3 day Wonder cruise last summer, and before we even boarded we had decided to re-book a 7 day Eastern.

We booked our upcoming cruise 15 months out. Paid it off this past February.

Then in April we added DH's oldest daughter (4). Paid off that upgrade and added passenger.

Then around the end of June, first of July we decided to leave 1 day earlier and spend a day at Blizzard Beach, pre-cruise.

Well that developed into leaving on the Sunday before the cruise and spending 4 days at WDW All Star Sports Resort.

My point is, starting to plan a 7 day cruise, in August 03', turned into a 14 day vacation, by August 04'.

DH and I both really enjoy all the planning that goes into our trips. We create wonderful memories for the entire family

We have itenerary charts that we change around several times, we have a worn out copy of the new Passporter Guide, and are planning on picking up the WDW edition. We have a student file that holds our reservation confirmations, maps, highlighters, a music cd DH created with cruise ship songs, and a printed out copy of DD8's trip journal.

Enjoy your planning, its even more fun when you both are involved in it. You can never overplan an extensive vacation. Just remember to have a great time and don't get upset if some of your planning goes

Memories last a life time.::yes::

If you're obsessive or crazy, you're in the right place with all the rest of us!:jester:  :jumping1:

Thank you all! I'm going to take in a deep breath because I feel VERY normal now!!! april riddle--yes, we are on the same cruise! I'm sure we'll see you, we're in 2502 and 2504 and will be the ones wandering around looking like a family of ducks and ducklings. WisconsinDisneyGirl--your husband and my wife probably came from the same mold. Thank you all--I'll cancel my appointment with the psychiatrist and use that time to re-read my Passporter and watch my DCL DVD!
