Hope someone can give me some ideas here. DS and I have a quick trip reserved from 1/3 thru 1/6 - one bdrm at BWV, Boardwalk view confirmed. We were having our every-other-year mother son trip. He's in college and quality time is at a real premium. Anyway, his funds are very tight (even behind in his rent) and he just got a part time job. He really needs as many hours as they can give him, so he needs to work over Christmas break. There goes the trip. We're not happy, but we have 38 years to go, so the job and study time for college are the priority here.

Anyway, the trip would start 1/3. The real kicker is that our use year is February. It's too late to bank. I will try and rent the points, but do I rent out the ressie or cancel and try and rent out the points to be used before 2/1? BWV is pretty full - I know because I tried to do some switching and there's not much available those dates. So the ressie might be great for someone. Would cancelling give me (and a potential renter) a little more flexibility? I think if I wait until 12/3, then I'm pretty much stuck with the ressie only. True?

Any brilliant suggestions?

Tough call. It's true cancelling would give you a chance at flexibility but it might also leave with you no "complete" reservation (might have to move rooms/resorts.)

No, this isn't true. If you cancel at 30 days or less, the points go into a "Holding Account". They can only be used to make reservations 60 days in advance and cannot be banked. Since, you'll be making a new reservation that starts before the end of February this isn't too much of a problem since you'll be within or close to 60 days for a reservation change.

You have the same options either way. If you try to rent and then cancel after 12/3, the points go into the Holding Account where you have to make the reservation within 60 days of arrival. Since you are already within that time frame, there is no difference when the points will expire 62 days from today.

I'd see if you can rent the existing reservation, but make it apparent that you are willing to make another reservation with the points, based on availability.

If someone is interested ina reservation for Dec 8-10- and you can find availabity, go ahead and cancel and make the new reservation.

This is a good example of Use Year making a difference.

Good Luck.

If you cancel, since you are almost within the last 60 days of your use year, these points could only be used within DVC (unless you can find someone in the next 2 days), they could not be used at a non-DVC resort. I would try to rent the reservation as is first, then see if there is anyone who wants to look at different dates, as Doc suggested. Good Luck!

How about keeping the reservation and asking a friend? Not what you originally intended, but it could be a fun time for you.:)

That's what I would do too! I never give up WDW trips easily!

Same here. I'd keep the ressie and ask someone else to go with me. Or I'd do a solo trip rather than not go at all. Whatever you decide to do, good luck! :D
