Getting bumped up to a higher room category

I wish I'd never heard of people getting free upgrades. Even though I'll be perfectly happy with what I booked...I'm going to have this niggling little voice inside the back of my head saying, "Well!! YOU didn't get an upgrade now did you? I guess you're not very special now ARE you?"

I'm just so hard on myself sometimes... :guilty:

You can easily squash that little voice by saying there were probably less than 15 rooms upgraded on your sailing (thats out of 875 rooms) so next to no one gets upgraded.

Doesn't work. I have the same voice. Nothing can silence it. I just so long to be singled out.

We have been on two cruises (3 day and Western), both booked almost 1 year in advance, and we were lucky enough to get upgraded both times (7 to a 5 and 7 to a 4 on the Western). Going again in April, but lightning has already struck twice, so not much hope. At least it will finally be warm.

We went on the January 6, 2005 cruise. We booked at a category 11 and got upgraded to a 9! I've only been on one disney cruise, so Im not sure if this would happen on a regular occurance! We booked about a month or maybe even less then a month before the cruise, and we got upgraded.

I'm the same way. I originally asked the question because I had heard of this happenning. Now I wish I hadn't. I had also heard that booking early was the key but it doesn't sound like it. Oh well. I will just have to be happy with my Cat. 11 room.

LOL!! Well, thanks for trying anyway, jrabbit... :)

Seriously, though...I'm sure once we board, all thoughts of upgrades will be soon forgotten. Oh!! And LOOK!! I'm doin' the SINGLE DIGIT DANCE!!!!

Okay...I admit...I just wanted a reason to use the banana guy. ;)

We're an example of booking late and getting upgraded. We booked on a whim in early December for our early February cruise. Just DH and I were going so we did gty. for 12 since it was so cheap. We were upgraded to cat. 11 (I know not a huge upgrade, but still better). And then a week before our cruise a rep called and asked if she could change our room again (docs had already been sent so I had to use the sharpie!). It was still a cat 11 but we were moved to one of th sideways ones on deck 5. I really liked it--I think more than I would have liked the regular ones.

I thought I read on one post, that most people who were upgraded had booked their air through DCL? Is this true, for those of you who have been upgraded?

Jenn

Not for me! I didn't even book the cruise through DCL! :) I booked our May '04 Magic cruise 15 months in advance though. (It was our first cruise) Booked a Cat. 6, picked my cabins, etc. I didn't find out about the upgrade until I had called to make REAS reservations, the CM then told me we were upgraded to a Cat. 4 room. All I had to do was cross out the numbers on the luggage tags that were sent with our docs.

Peanut Girl, enjoy. aring75--go easy on yourself, you already know the biggest secret--book a category that you will be happy with. I had sort of a reverse--was notified of an upgrade a month out, then got docs two weeks later w/ old stateroom # on them, so used pen (wasn't even a sharpie) on the luggage tags.

I do not expect an upgrade on next cruise, it being a spring break week, and I love cat. 8's anyway.

I just booked a & day western caribbean cruise for May 6 2006. The DCL clerk went ahead and booked me on a GTY cat 12 stateroom for 4 of us even though those staterooms only fit 3 people...:confused3

After I figured this out ...called back DCL about it...and the DCL clerk told us that there wasn't any mistakes, that we would probably be upgraded to a cat 11 since we were 4 cruisers!!!

I didn't book cat 12 in hopes of being upgraded, just want to take that extra $$$ and spoil my family with it. Besides, my sister and her DH are joining us and THEY have booked a cat 7 stateroom, looks like they'll de seeing lots of us:)

Wow. I am surprised they would do that. One TA I talked to said that one room in our party (a room with 3 people) could be booked at Category 12 but that we (4 in our party) would have to book Category 11s because the 12 does not fit 4. I am surprised they would do that.
