If we have our own transfers (limo/van), can we still get out boarding passes at the pier for USAIR? Even though we won't be using the DCL buses, I still think that I'd like to get my boarding pass at the pier instead of standing in those lines at the airport. Thanks.

Do they give boarding passes at the pier? My recollection is that they check your bags, but you still must check in at the airport to get a boarding pass. The benefit is that you can go directly to your gate and check in, bypassing the line downstairs where everyone's waiting to check luggage. Admittedly, I haven't been on a cruise for a while, but I think I have it right.

We flew with USAIR in January and did just that. We had friends pick us up after the cruise so didn't need transfers. The agent gave us the boarding passes and checked us in right there so we didn't have to wait in line and they also took our luggage to the airport on a box truck, but from this board I understand you may not get that option anymore. I would check once you are there or call DCL for a definitive answer. The porter just took us out and to the proper stand for USAIR.

It is my understanding that as of a few months ago, if you were not using DCL transfers back to the airport, you were not allowed to check your bags or get boarding passes at the port.

Air line check in will also vary with the terror alert level. If it goes up (I think to orange) air line check in at the port gets suspended and you have to check in with your luggage at the air port.

Thanks everyone. I'll call and see. I was just trying to make the transition for 12 people as easy as possible.

If you are only traveling within the US, then you can go to one of the kiosks for your airline & print your boarding pass avoiding the long lines.

We did this in May & it was great!

Or log on to your airlines web-site the night before departing & print out your boarding pass while on the ship. The cost of doing that while on the ship should not be too bad or maybe someone in your group will purchase unlimited internet access....
