Getting autographs from Lightning and Mater

I put this in my post in the trip report forum (Wag of the Finger/Tip of the Hat) - a suggestion for how to get autographs from Lightning McQueen and Mater appearing at the Disney-MGM Studios a few times each day.

My son was truly pumped to meet these two, and knew about getting autographs from characters. For weeks before the trip, he kept saying that he couldn't wait to get Lightning's autograph - and I kept saying that Lightning had no way to hold a pen.

My son suggested that he use his windshield wipers.

Smart aleck.

For our autographs, we got a 4x6 Disney photo album and decided that we would place a pic of the kids with the character on one side with a 4x6 cardboard recipe card that we would get the characters to sign on the other side. The use of these cards is key - or some kind of autograph book where the pages are of a similar thickness.

Take the card (or page) and place it against the tire of Lightning or Mater and rub over it with your fingernails or knuckles. You should get an okay impression of the tire treads in the card (and a little black rubber dust to boot!)

We asked the CM's in advance if we could touch the tires to do this - they had no problems with doing so and thought that it was a great idea.

Just a suggestion for anyone interested in getting autographs from these characters.

Oh what a GREAT idea. We won't be seeing them during our Disney trip but they are coming to a car show here this weekend and we may have to go just for them. Oh and Sally and Mack are going to be there too. :Pinkbounc

LOVE IT!! :car: Thanks!

I heard that if you ask Pete Roleum he can sign autographs for the both of them.

Great idea, to get a better impression make a rubbing of the tire. Take a crayon with you and place the paper over the tire and take the paper off the crayon and rub the side of the crayon on the paper over the tire tread.

Ah, great option for those with autograph books where the paper is actually paper rather than a "card stock".

The recipe cards we used wouldn't work for a crayon rubbing - too thick.

Another great idea though.

I hadn't heard about Pete Roleum signing for the cars - does anyone know more about this?
