I am probably going to have to wear a klunky black walking boot next week when we are at the parks....normally I wear a long tube sock to prevent chafing of my calf but it will be way too hot for that...does anyone have any ideas as to what I might wear or do to prevent the chafing.....

My honest opinion is that it won't be too hot for the sock. The forecast next week (I know it changes all the time) is only in the high 60's, low 70's for the high (and mid 50's for the low), and because of June Gloom, the mornings will likely be cooler as the cloud cover won't burn off until the afternoon. If that's what you're used to having and it works, I'd stick with it. I don't think it will be a problem.

Do you think you will be able to last walking around all day? Have you considered renting a ECV or wheelchair?

I actually walk ALOT on a regular basis so I am hoping I'll be okay at the parks. If it becomes problematic, I will rent a scooter (my DD will love that!!) But thanks for the suggestion!

I agree about sticking with the sock. The weather here in California has been absolutely crazy lately. Spring never really materialized and it's forecast to rain on and off at least through Monday. I live in the SF Bay Area and usually S. Cal. gets warmer weather than we do. Even so, I wouldn't expect it to be unbearably hot next week.

A few years ago, I wore a walking boot for several months and found that it was most comfortable with a thick sock under it. It kept my toes clean and dry and kept little rocks from getting into the cast. You might want to bring an extra sock along if you plan to go on water rides. Having a wet foot in a walking boot does not sound like fun! Have a great trip!:)

I would go to a sporting store and buy "Glide" - it is like deodorant, you just slide it on your leg or other chafing area and it really takes care of everything. Try it out at home!

If the foot part is okay and doesn't chafe, how about cutting the "toe" part off the tube sock and just wearing it like a leg warmer? That way your leg is protected and your foot is cool?? :confused3

Good idea- I'm going to try that! And also buy the Glide product as well!
