Our family is thinking about renting a cabin at Fort Wilderness in June. In the reviews I've read, many people think that you should rent a golf cart to get around. At around $50 a day, that seems as much as a rental car. Can you drive and park in and around Fort Wilderness or is it limited to walking and golf carts. From maps I've seen its at least a mile from end to end, is that very difficult to walk in the June heat? We have two kids 7 and 4 and we still cart around the 4 yo in a stroller at Disneyland. thanks

You may want to go over to the camping board, there are alot nice people over there and they can probably answer any questions you have.

We stay at FW at least twice a year but not in the cabins (we have a fifth wheel). There are internal buses that pick up outside each loop and drop you off at the outpost and also Trails end (marina). You cannot drive to the marina and park. There is a small parking area at the meadows but it is only short term parking while you are in the store. Of course if you ride the bus you can get on or off at any of the stops.

Sometimes we rent a cart and sometimes not. we bring our bikes and ride where we want to go or just take a bus.

Like I said "Jump over to the camping board they are a wealth of information.

You can not drive around FW, just to and from your site...golf cart, bike, walk, that's it. You really don't NEED a golf cart, but they sure are fun. After our first camping trip we had so much fun with one we went out and bought our own. :cool1: Head over to the Camping At Disney area for more information.

Car traffic is limited to getting to and from your site and outside the campground. There are no parking spaces at the trading posts. We didn't see the need to rent a cart either. We used the internal buses. You can take those to the different areas, get out and explore and then just get back on again.

If you are staying there and want to explore, I would suggest that you don't do it all in one day. The campground is really too big for that.

Thanks for all the great info. Checked out the camping section. Sounds like buses can be used or you can walk. Probably won't rent a golf cart if we stay there. Can't make up my mind if we want "rough it" in a cabin or stay at a moderate resort like POFQ.
