I read last night that by bus getting from our resort to Pleasure Island can take 45 minutes by bus. Ugh. We don't want to rent a car. Are there cabs available to go from resorts to parks?

Well, it depends on resort you're staying at. I had read that in Birnbaum's, that it COULD take up to 45 minutes to get from one place to another. That's not always the case. It didn't seem like we were ever on any bus at any time for more than 15 minutes, 20 max. The bus system Disney has ran very smoothly and we're hoping for the same thing when we go in a couple of months.

I agree with the previous poster. Disney transportation is, for the most part, very good and reliable. The 45 minutes you read is IF you just missed a bus and have to wait for another one. For the most part the buses run smoothly and you are rarely on any bus more than 20 minutes or so, normally less than that.
To answer your question about taxis, they are available outside the main entrances of all Disney resorts. They are normally waiting there but if not then the Cast Member at the outside podium will call and get you one right away. I have read that there are plenty of taxis avialble at Downtown Disney and Pleasure Island.
