Getting around AKL from a pool view room ?

I have heard that there are long halls and long walks getting around the AKL resort. I was thinking of requesting Giraffe trail first floor pool view room. How hard would it be for us to get around the resort from there ? Like going to the bus stop, Boma, Mara, and the pool. Do we have to walk down halls to get to the exit for these or will there be a way to walk out with to much hassle ?
I have heard they upgrade people alot. What if we dont want to be upgraded ? We would rather be close to the pool and restaurants. Thanks for any information .

It is very easy to get to everything from the first floor, giraffe trail. To get to the pool you just walk right out the side doors. The Mara and Boma are also right there off of the first floor. You walk outside as opposed to going through the hotel. This is the quickest route. We always request first floor and have gotten it every time but one. To get to the buses, you take the elevator up and you are right there in the lobby. It's all very convenient.

We personally prefer Zebra Trail because, although the hallway is long, it has windows on either side (left views out over a Savannah and you see animals, while right views out over the pool). It makes for a lovely walk back and forth to your room!

We had a 1st floor pool view room in 2008 and it was fantastic.....Zebra trail I think? Close to Boma, Mara, laundry room, the pool was literally a few steps right outside our door, close to pool bar too and jacuzzis, playground......our little girl was 3 at the time so it worked out really great......have fun

We had a lovely 4th floor pool view on the Zebra Trail. We took the elevator to the lobby to catch a bus and walked to the end of the hall and took the stairs down to the pool/Mara area. It was a short walk for both and very easy. I liked the view of the pool from 4th floor.

Do you think giraffe trail or zebra trail would be easiest to get to the bus stop ?

Giraffe trail is closer to the bus stop but neither are far. We prefer zebra trail first floor because of the small amount of room for the pool view. It is close to the pool, pool bar, jacuzzi, kiddie pool, arcade, Boma, Mara, laundry, kids club. It is all so close. When staying zebra trail we just walked straight out the door by our room, made a short walk past the Mara, and then went right into the main building and just took the elevators up. It is so quick. Again, you can't go wrong either way. At least, that is my opinion. We love pool view.

Oh ok can you go out that door or is it just a way in and out of the fitness center ? I'm just wondering how many doors there are that you can exit out along the first floor? We were just there earlier this week on the 4th floor zebra trail. I loved our corner room as I could quickly run out, get the elevator to the first floor, run to the Mara and return with breakfast. It's a little further to your room from the lobby but it honestly didn't bother us. If you want a nice pool view request at least the 3rd floor and higher. Our first room was 2424 with a very lame pool view. We switched to 4436 and had a fantastic view.
