Getting annoyed with the people who "just don't get it"!

I'm working my last shift tonight before I leave on vacation next week (I'm an NICU RN). OK...I may have been annoying my co-workers lately with the excitement of my upcoming trip, but they just "Don't get it"! Most people just ask where I'm going. When I tell them, "I'm going to DisneyWorld!", they say "Again!" (I haven't been back to WDW since January '04! To me that seems like forever!) :earseek: One fellow RN asked me how long I'm going for. I told her 10 days. She said, "Geez! All this excitement for just 10 days!" I tried to explain that I would be this excited for ONE day at WDW and that most people don't usually go for 10 days! ARGH! WHY CAN'T THESE PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THE MAGIC!!!! :confused3 But I guess that leaves more room at WDW for those of us who do! :wizard:

Signing off.......VERY EXCITED here in the NICU! 50 minutes till the end of my shift! Kathy

No one around me gets it either. Family, friends and coworkers think I am crazy, and I don't leave for 2 more months. I went ahead and took the day off before we go just to save my co-workers the stress of watching me jump around and saying things like "this time tommarrow i'll be at the MK watching Wishes". We usually go in Sept and all that week at any given time I would just spout out " i would have not had tacos for lunch today if i was in WDW, i would have had pecos bills" or "i would be in epcot right now". :teeth: But don't feel alone, I get it and there are thousands of other fabulous dissers here who get it, too :grouphug: !

Guess I'm lucky, my fellow RNs seem to understand. They usually ask me when my next trip is, LOL. Don't let it bother you. Have a wonderful trip and enjoy your time off. :wizard:

I totally understand. I am a medical assistant in a pediatric office. Everyone knows that Maggie is a pixie dust head. I have drug reps and parents that call me when it's vacation planning time. I should be a TA, but I guess MA will do for now. lol

My coworkers are starting to roll their eyes......AGAIN......because the excitement level is building. I was so excited about Lilo & Stitch being at the Ohana breakfast today. They just didn't get just how cool this is since we both are Stitch fans.

Oh well, there is nothing to do, but just learn to put up with their ignorance. :rotfl: Maggie

BTW....it's been almost 2 years since we were there last.....and they still say "AGAIN?"

Most of my friends don't get it either. I get a lot of eye rolls and sighs. One of my friend's daughters were over and we were having breakfast for dinner. (We love that at our house!) I was, of course, making Winnie the Pooh and Tigger waffles. My "friend" replied, "You would," in a sarcastic tone.

Thank goodness I have a very, very good friend who is also a DVC member, and we are doing our first MOMS only trip in January! Wahoo! She's the only one besides my family (parents, sister, dh and dd's) that really gets it. She's as addicted as I am. :earboy2:

Most people don't get it, especially if they've never been to WDW. Maybe they are just jealous. Whatever their deal is, it's ok. We'll just keep the magic to ourselves. :wizard:

DH can mention it at work as there are at least 4 other DVC people there. they enjoy planning & exchanging info.
I don't mention it. Most people I work with tend to be 'serious'. Although, some have gone, they generally get into the 'disney is a big business' thing. :rolleyes1 Yes, I know, but I want to be silly & relax & believe the magic! :earsboy:
I can mention it to DSis, she's up for just getting out of the house! :flower:
Mum's the word...

The eternal struggle of the DisFreak.
I feel your pain; its a hard explanation being a 22 y/o hetero college male self-proclaimed DisFreak. But it makes it a little more fun too!

Until then I'll just sit in class and work and watch the faces of those surprised I am excited to buy Cinderella on DVD on release date, and save my money to go to WDW again.

Keep the faith and let them keep watching FOX's brilliant string of reality programing.

LOL....I know EXACTly what you mean. First off, I was married (my first time) to a man whom hated Disney. Why he even went, is beyond me. He did nothing but complain. (complain while at Disney...I think not...!)

The folks I work with all look at me and say "didn't you just get back...don't you get tired of the same ole vacation???". DUUUUUUHHH...I have been to Disney probably 12+ times and not one vacation was just like the last one. As you said, they just don't get it. Some co-workers even make the crack that "all those rides would get so old to me...." (not realizing that this isn't your typical amusement park....)

My new husband I are now DVC members and I don't even tell anyone where I'm going whilst on vacation because its none of their business really. I KNOW we are going to have a super time and that's all that's important.

For the record, I work in Emergency Medicine (not an RN)... how bizarre....

Esmerelda :rolleyes1

I really don't care if they get it, but do they have to be so rude? Would I say to someone, "Vegas again? Oh, I hate that place!" Or, "The Jersey shore? How can you go there?" No, I would never say that. So why do people think they have to make comments like that?

It's your job. The stress must be really tough and all the NCIU RN's I know have seen it all! (Three NICU babies here, one no longer with us, two, well you would never know my two year old monster was 3 lbs when he was born and we almost lost him several times! NICU nurses are my heros). It's also some jealousy too. There are people in the world who just cannot get excited for other peoples happiness. I don't even talk about my vacations to my in-laws anymore because the term "Wet Blanket" is an understatement :)

*I*, on the other hand, am darn jealous that you are going for a whole ten days and am just thrilled for you!

I have to admit, my 'coworkers' LOVE to hear my Disney stories!!! That's because I'm a school teacher and most kids "get it"!!! My room is full of disney items (90% given to me by my students!), when I give my fifth graders spelling tests every sentence is about Disney and so are any sample sentences, etc. that I use! I have a basketful of Dis stuffed animals in my room for reading time and the kids rush to grab their favorite characters as reading buddies. I'm so lucky because they love it and never complain about hearing another disney story!! (maybe most parents don't since I'm sure the kids go home and beg their parents to go..maybe Disney should pay me as a working advertisement!!!!

As for me, most or all of my friends you could stick in a phone booth and still have room to go in and make a call. But a few co workers have stated, that either one mate or the other isn't Disney inclined and would rather not venture there and have a ruined stay because of the conflict or financial reasons deters their trips, but thse people says they rather see Disney through my eyes. They love hearing of our experiences and seeing our photos. We've been going since 1977, just about every year and lately, sometimes 2 and 3 times a year (daughter did the college program for six months, and after graduating college, went back to live and work for Disney for one year) who's now getting married( since now has moved back to Ohio, Disney's low pay and none advancement in her field) this weekend and we're meeting them in Disneyworld after their honeymoon cruise to spend a week there. Thats where they met, got proposed to and still love the place and still "enjoy" including us in their travels and us them.
I have done many a trip plan for other people and their kids, we sort of are the Disney guru's in our area, I read everything on the World and try to get the most out of Disney without spending a fortune. Every year, we count down the days, make plans and iternaries and try to include a new person or persons on our trip to share the magic with us.

I know exactly how you feel!!! I try really hard not to let the word Disney slip into a conversation but sometimes its impossible. My dsis even said to me I was the 6 degrees of Disney. They don't get its my happy place!! Frankly I say to hek with them , if we keep talking to them about it they all might start coming and where would we be. So I say go away non-believers we have enough friends right to share our joy with!!!

By the way I leave on Thursday, I am soooooooo excited (for 10 days also)!!

You sound like me! I'm always planning trips for new friends, and my list is always growing. Over the years, I've assisted countless friends to Disney --some loved it and "got it"; others, well....I'm of the opinion the some people just aren't happy--I don't care if they're at Disney or Hawaii, or Vegas, or anywhere else,it doesn't matter. They carry their problems with them. And I suspect that these are the people at home who never "get it". Who cares! The point is: WE DO "GET IT" and thank goodness for that!!!   :cool1: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I just can't comprehend how people could not want to go to Disney over and over again :confused3

I unfortunately can't afford to go once or twice a year, I try to go every other year. I made the choice to purchase a very expensive home, so that was a choice I made myself :) and I feel very lucky to have such a beautiful house. But when I can go, and in between trips, it is all I talk about. I save and plan the entire time !!!!!!!!!!!! And I just love reading trips reports, it is just so much fun. I always seem to hear about something I have never done and it just gets me more excited !!!!

I am so grateful for this site. I feel like I have so many disney friends. :Pinkbou

POFQ is our next stay in May 2006 and I have never stayed at that resort, so I have pics of the Dragon slide on my fridge, the castle as my screen saver, a countdown on my corkboard behind my desk :earseek: I am a freak for sure, and proud of it

I stopped talking about my Disneyworld trips when my co-workers suggested, quite seriously, that they thought I need professional help of the mental health kind. I work in one of 4 different departments that amalgamated and apparently a woman who had worked in one of the departments had a nevous breakdown after returning from a 2 week trip to WDW and couldn't deal with the reality of coming back to work. I figured it was easier to keep quiet about my trips than have my co-workers questioning my sanity.

It is funny to hear other people talk about this. I totally get the rolling of the eyes from people who know us when I mention we are going to WDW. I even try to keep it quiet to some of my friends! My sister claims that I have been brainwashed by Disney. At times I kind of wonder if it is true when I hear my toddler say "Disney" (meaning a video). In any case, who cares? If it makes me happy then it is happy brainwashing.
My husband just lets me go. He agreed to another trip in Feb. (which I am elated about and we already have room reservations) but when he asked me why WDW again, I seriously responded "where else do we go with a toddler?". Great excuse, eh?
I'm right there with ya Dis'ers. :earsboy:

Wow! My post says 0 days!!!! Oh my! We leave tomorrow!!! Yikes. I have to dance...so pardon me.... :dancer: :dancer: :dancer: :dancer: :dancer:

I have my own business and am also in the public eye.

I was at meeting in town with the mayor, and heads of other departments as well as state representatives. When we were looking to set up future meeting schedules. I announced that November 17 was not good for me since I will be away and someone says "going to Disney again" I proudly say of course and don't you wish you were going.

Later I get someone whispering over my shoulder saying "this crowd will never get the concept of Disney" I look over to see who it is....and its one of my states prominant politicians. I'm a DVC owner at the Boardwalk....I whispered back with a big smile :teeth: I'm at SSR. He says Do you have the golf package.....Of course I reply.

That really made my day!

I don't really talk about it that much at work, but everyone knows that I am a "WDW expert". That is why they come to me with questions and for help. I understand that most people don't get it either because (1)they haven't been, (2)went at the most crowded, hottest time and paid full price, (3)don't have the magic in their heart. I don't want to hear their complaints, it brings me down.

I was in an office the other day talking to a woman I know when we were discussing going to a different park that we were near on a weekend trip. The secretary piped in with "Well, it is just like that at WDW, too crowded and you have to wait to long in lines"

It took everything I had to hold back from asking "When did you go, the summer? Did you use FP? Did you only fo to MK?" But I was cool about it because there are some people you could give a free trip to and assure them of no crowds and they still wouldn't like it! Some people don't want to have that fun. They want to lay on a beach and then go out to eat. They want to do the same thing every year instead of a vacation that you can make different every time you visit. They don't feel the magic and don't get the pixie dust. Bah to them. Means more for me and my *~magical~* family.

My mom never wanted to go. I asked many times as a child to go on vacation to WDW. Mom and Dad went on a vacation in the '70's with friends to Daytona. Their friends all went to Mk for one day, not my Mom. She wouldn't like it. Well, we finally lured her to WDW in the winter of 2002 and since then they have made 5 trips with us and she is ready to go again. Some people don't believe they will like it because they don't really know what it is. They also think it is too expensive. I always think that compared to other trips you get much more of your money's worth!

Thanks for letting me vent about this. I know it is long and I didn't even mention the trip with my wet-blanket BIL!!
