getting a new trailer

Well DH made a choice and we are getting a new trailer. I am a little sad for all the happy memories in our old one, it was 11 years old. We had some great vacations together. Unfortunately FW is not on our agenda for a summer vacation, but who knows a site may open up when we can go. Our new trailer will have one slide out, don't much about towing those. I do know we will need a dual cam hitch what ever that is. Any advice you have about towing a higher(3 steps to get in) trailer. Your in put on how the trucks push wind any differently with a higher trailer? I know the dual cam helps with sway, what else does it do? Thanks I know someone will be able to help me understand. This will be me with big eyes...on our first trip home..don't worry I am the passenger not the driver.

Can't give any advice since I don't tow anything but let me say CONGRATULATIONS and get behind the wheel some time in the future. You will be OK.

I can't help much either. I will have my husband check out your post to see if he has any 'words of wisdom.' In the meantime CONGRATULATIONS!

I spoke to my husband about the wind/height. He said that the higher vehicle will take the most wind. Also, something that we never thought about until we started rving was driving through overpasses. When you are leaving the overpass, the wind can through you off. Hope this helps.

The Reese dual cam sway system is a good set up, make sure your dealer thoroughly shows you how to correctly hitch up. the purpose of the dual cam is twofold, weight distribution this evenly distributes the tongue weight over all axles on both the trailer and tow vehicle, is also works to control sway, while it will not eliminate sway situation completely it is a good system, the best would be either the Hensley Arrow or the pullrite system, I can attest to the Hensley it works just as advertised but it is expensive.

by the way the dual cam set up does make some noise, so do not be alarmed when you hear it, its normal

thanks for all your replies. We have towed once from dealership and down and back to Williamsburg to try it out. I love the camper and the Expedition seems to do fine with the weight but it is just two of us now so not so much extras to carry. We do have the Henley dual cam hitch. My Dh is still reading about it, but so far so good. But I will miss not FW trip this year.

Congrats!! What kind of trailer did you get? Where in Williamsburg did you stop at??

we got a 2004 Sunline with a slide room. We had a 1994 Sunline, but don't need bunks any longer Still getting used to the new hitch set up. We have stayed in KOA's in Williamsburg. We have stayed in both Colonial Central and Williamsburg KOA they are right next to each other. We like Colonial because we stayed there before it was a KOA, we like the sites are bigger and more trees but I think the bathrooms are older at Colonial. They are now run by the same people I think.
