Getting a little worried about sleeping on a double bed

So my wife and I are taking our second ever disney trip. Our first was for our honeymoon. We went all out and stayed at a deluxe resort. Yes it was a great stay but we quickly found out we are the types of people who don't spend any time at the resort except to sleep.

For our next trip we don't want to spend nearly as much money on the resort as we spent on our honeymoon. To be honest we want to spend as little as possible on the resort. Even staying at a moderate seems too pricey with how little we use the resort for. So we know it's not the cheapest value resort but we currently have a little mermaid room at the Art of Animation booked and we are very very happy with the price.

I'm starting to get a little worried though about our comfort on a double bed. I know families stay at value resorts all the time and adults must sleep on these beds together all the time but I can't shake this feeling. We don't want to pay any more just for a place to sleep at night but we also don't want to be uncomfortable to the point we can't sleep at night.

Am I worrying about nothing?
We are staying for the first half of our vacation at the ASM and have no reservations about the beds. we aren't rather tall people so a double bed for each of us doesn't seem to be an issue. Have you thought of trying offside if this concerns you?

True story...

Wife woke up one night and said "dammit, move over. You are taking up nearly 1/2 the bed".

She had no recollection in the morning.

These threads always make me smile. DH and I share a full sized bed at home because we have an antique bed frame and we have no issues. We are in the middle of a three resort split stay. Our first few days were at Pop and we found the bed very comfortable. We are at OKW tonight and then AKL.

We refuse to do the double bed thing. Would rather wait to save up money and book the moderates. We don't like the double beds or the way the sound carries through the walls at the values we have stayed in. Good luck!

We don't book a room where we would have to share a queen sized bed. Now it's just the two of us, so we'll each take a queen sized bed. Otherwise, it's only king beds for us (like DVC one bedroom villas). The only studio we'll book is OKW so we can each get a queen bed (no sleeper sofas for either of us).

I refuse to even try a double bed. I won't even book a DVC studio as I don't even want to share a queen. Much happier with a King bed.

I'm in the camp that there are 2 beds in the room so you can have a bed all to yourself if it is just you 2.
I don't mind double beds though. I'm always surprised that is such a deal breaker for some people, but everyone has different opinions so it's all good.

We are from the UK where double beds are the norm and it's unusual for people to have king or queen size beds. When we stay at WDW in a queen size bed it feels really odd and almost like I have to shout across at my husband!

I'm very surprised that you say that. I'm from the UK as well and have been married 25 years and can honestly say we have never slept in a double and have always had at least a King (American queen) or a super king (American king). I disagree it's unusual for U.K. People to have Kings

Perhaps you have a much bigger house than me and the people I know! lol

I have no issue with one person in a double bed. When DD was small, it was easy to share with her. Now that she is bigger, if we stay Value we would bring her an air mattress to sleep on. Personally, we prefer Value resorts. You don't get looks if your child is making a little more noise than others because they are having fun.

DH and I stayed at AoA in The Little Mermaid section. We requested a king bed. It worked out great! Recommended.
(It was a regular king room, not a handicap accessible one.)

The double beds are the sole reason that I will not stay at a value. Stayed at AsMo once with DH and two kids. Never again! Like someone else said I would rather save up for a moderate or stay offsite than feel like I didn't get a good night's sleep.

I agree with PPs that there are two beds so DH and I would each take our own bed if it was just the two of us.

However if there were others going and we had no choice but to share a bed, it would depend on how long we were staying. I could do a few nights in a double but if it were more than 3-4 nights I would want a queen for sure.

Is this a request you need to call in for? Or is it done through online check-in?

I booked online and requested a king bed during online check in. It wouldn't hurt to call and add a king request though.

When we stayed at Pop we actually slept each in separate beds! As Newlyweds you may not want to do that, but if you want to save the money and have space...

If the smaller bed is truly an issue and you're on a budget trip, you can either each have a bed - or bite the bullet and pay the extra money for a moderate.

We tried, we failed. I couldn't get far enough away from hubby to stop feeling his furnace-like body heat. I ended up sleeping in the other bed with my toddler.
