We booked 7 nights at the AKL Standard View July 26th-August 2nd. This will be our first Deluxe resort.

As with our last trip, there are only two of us. When we stayed at CS, we requested a King, but didn't get it. Anyone know if we call/fax in the room assignment time window (I know it's a few days before arrival), we'd be more likely to have our request accomodated in a deluxe over a moderate due to the fact that there are more king-bed rooms?

You pay extra for a King at the mod hotels, so you will be guaranteed to get one.

I was playing around on www.disneyworld.com looking at resorts and whatnot and I began a search for a vacation package (I do this every once and a while to see if I get some magical quote :) ).

At one point in the 3 steps of choosing my package there was an option to secure a king sized bed for an additional fee - there were also other selections for specific room views for an additional fee as well.

I'm not sure how you booked, but if not via disneyworld.com perhaps you can call the resort directly and offer to pay the fee to secure a king sized bed in your room... just a suggestion if you don't mind the extra money.

It was not that much extra and it was not a per night fee it was just an additional fee on top of the package price.

The reason you did not get the King at the CSR is because there is a seperate price for King bed rooms there, thus unless you pay the extra $15 for it a night, you don't get it.

The AKL works differently, they have a set number of King rooms (theres not very many) and you have to request one. They have King beds in all 3 view levels. Call Disney reservations 1-800-828-0228 and ask them to add that request to your reservation forms. Good luck!

When I read the title of the thread, I thought someone was trying to get the creepy Burger King - King Guy into WDW...wow what a long day at work, I must be warped

Hi,
Paying ahead for a king room doesn't guarantee that you will get a king bed. We had a room only reservation for a king (paid extra deposit) at P.O. When we got there there were no king beds available. The cast member checking us in tried to give us a water view instead. We chose to go with the regular double bed room. :earsgirl:

Thanks for all the great tidbits of information.

When we booked at CSR, the reservation rep. told us there was a chance we'd be upgraded if we put the request on reservation (Disney Magic and all...) but this time we booked our reservation online...no friendly advice from the ole' computer.

Can I call reservations to add a request to a reservation made online?

I would definitely give them a call and explain the situation, offering to pay for the king bed if available. Sometimes if you offer to pay the additional cost they'll be more likely to upgrade at no charge if it's possible to do so.

I would also follow-up with a fax to that resort three days before your arrival. This time frame was on www.allearsnet.com and they stated that is when the room assignments start to be made. When we went last October I faxed a short note to the "room assigner" exactly three days before our trip for a particular room and we not only got that room but also some other extras for our son's birthday. I kept the note short and sweet (okay, very sweet) and stated that I understood it was only a request, no guarantees, and that any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Just call and add it your reservation. They do assign rooms more than 3 days out. Also many of the resorts aren't looking at faxes so if you have it added to your reservation you don't have to worry about it.

If you are going at a busy time I would just pay the extra for a king bed room if that is what you really want.

I called and I was able to add the request. The CM said nothing about an extra charge or the chance that I'd not get it. So, we'll see!

if the request is in there, it's possible you will be upgraded, but please remember that it is a request and not a guarntee. There are a limited amount of rooms that have king beds. I wish you luck.

Dh and I booked a king at AKL this past fall for our anniversary trip. There is no extra charge for a king at AKL, but there are very few of them. Upon check-in, we were told that no kings were available but we were being up-graded to a savanna view because of this. Obviously, we did not mind.

Our last trip to WL (this past Easter), we got a King room, but it was a handicap room. We really liked it better. Since it was just the two of us, and we only shower, it was great. I thought we would have a problem with the water going everywhere but we didn't. So if you don't take a bath, only shower, this may work for you too. :earsboy:
