We are taking a cruise out of san diego on Oct. looking for a hotel. Was looking but got overwhelmed. Has anyone got a nice hotel that they have stayed at before and liked it.
any info wil help

I'd like to know this too! Which October sailing are you on? We're the 3 day, leaving on Oct. 1st

If you are looking to stay downtown we stayed at the U.S. Grant during vacation (non cruise) Beautiful hotel and the best breakfast. Still craving their chicken and waffles five months later ;)

We are going on the Panama Canal cruise in October. I would like a hotel with shuttle service from the airport to the hotel and then from the hotel to the ship unless we decide on the wyndham. But, we know nothing about San Diego. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,

Downtown SD is very very small, for a downtown. Getting to the airport is a hop skip and a jump, and it's the same with the port. Check for shuttles, but don't be afraid of taxis, because the distance between things is SO close. The only thing to worry about is waiting in traffic and having the meter going for that, especially if there's an event at Petco Stadium.

Can understand being overwhelmed. Had trouble last year before our CA coast and Alaska cruise. Needed 2 nights and not much was available. Ended up booking a Best Western and it was fine. It didn't come with breakfast but there was a restaurant onsite - think there was a booking option that included it but we didn't need it because we had other plans. It did have a shuttle to and from the airport but the big surprise was that they took us to the cruise terminal and SeaWorld too. And I think I paid like 160 total for the 2 nights on a busy weekend. There are probably nicer places but it was clean, had a pool and nice fellow guests. I can look and see if I can figure out which Best Western it was if anyone is interested.

We ended up not using a taxi because the hotel shuttles would take us anywhere we needed to go but I don't think any of the fares were that high. I did notice when I was looking for a hotel that even though a lot of the hotels had airport shuttles, they only ran until 6pm or 8pm. The Best Western was later - 10 pm I think.

Has anyone stayed at The Grand Horton in San Diego? That is where I am looking, as it is mid priced (from what I have seen) plus, highly recommended by Frommers and Trip Advisor. Just would like to know other opinions. TIA!

If I were going I'd stay at Humphrey's Half Moon on Shelter Island. I wouldn't even think twice about it.

Last year when we took the Panama Canal cruise out of San Diego, we stayed at the Manchester Grand Hotel. We did the pre-night option with DCL and that is where they put us. Beautiful, clean and very good service. It is just a few steps from Sea Port Village which has numerous restaurants and shops. It is just a few minutes driving time to the port. Don't recommend the breakfast buffet, it was expensive and not worth the money. Better to go over to Sea Port Village, which we will be doing when we take our next Panama Canal Cruise in October! Totally AWESOME cruise by the way.

We have booked the Manchester for 3 nights prior to our first Panama Canal cruise in October! Need to try and shake off a bit of the jet lag before we cruise and looking forwarding to a couple of days in San Diego too.

Hi thumpie and Lottie, looks like we are all on the same cruise coming up! I will look into the Manchester Grand Hotel! Thank you!

I just booked the Best Western Plus Bayside in - .3 mi from port and free breakfast. We are only there to sleep before boarding so proximity was important for us.

We booked the Wyndham before for a few days before october's EBPC. Free shuttle from the airport, really close to the port, and close to the amtrak station (as we'receive planning to do a day trip up to Disneyland via amtrak). Seems like a lot of people on this cruise are staying at the Wyndham.

The Wyndham has a deal running night now but I don't want to share a full bed.:) They only have fulls or kings so sadly won't work for our family of 4.
