Getting a cab to UO...should I set it up ahead of time?

I know that we will be going to UO on 10/23, 10/24 and 10/25. I am planning on taking a cab from Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort each day (yes, it would have made more sense to stay at a UO resort--long story). I have actually never taken a cab and I'm wondering how to go about doing it.

Should I call a cab company and set something up ahead of time? Do I need to worry about drivers trying to charge me too much? Or are the prices set/metered?? Also, do you think anyone would give me a deal for setting up all of these rides at the same time?

Any taxi advice would be greatly appreciated!!! :goodvibes

You might want to check out www.mearstransportation.com to see what they offer in terms of arranging something ahead of time. I don't take cabs since I live here but I would think it wouldn't be a problem to just grab one at the hotel. I guarantee it's not a big deal to grab one leaving Universal...there are cabs all over the place.

You can arrange a taxi with the concierge at the Caribbean Beach. I would just call the concierge from your room to arrange the taxi the night before for the pick up time you want. If you do it that way the taxi can come close to your building. Otherwise you may find that the taxi company can only pick you up at the Custom House which could be a little walk depending on which building you are staying in.

We went to Universal for two days this past July from Caribbean Beach. As there were 8 of us I booked private transportation with Tiffany Towncar in advacne. Otherwise we would need two taxi's or hope to get a van taxi. The Mears shuttle offered at the Disney Resorts worked out more expensive and makes multiple pick ups. I also checked into a private van from Mears but they wanted us to tell them a pick up time coming back when we booked which did not give us the flexibility of eating in Citywalk or wondering around after the park closed or even leaving early if we needed to. Mears were also more expensive.

Tiffany provided a private van shuttle that fit our party size of 8 for $90 round trip, I think their rates have gone up now though to $125 round trip. They were great, they met us at the Custom House with our name on a sign. For pick up we just called the driver 1 hour before we wanted to leave and he told us which space he would be parked in at the drop off area. I liked having the fixed price as we did not have worry about which route the driver took or if we got stuck in traffic.
