Getaway Today Character Meal

Quick question...I've already reserved lunch at Ariel's Grotto for our March trip. Can I still purchase a character meal voucher through getaway today? If so, how does it work? Do they mail the vouchers or do I pick them up at DL?

Yes, you can buy the tickets through Get Away Today even though you have reservations for your meal. They will send you a voucher before your trip that you will redeem for meal certificates or vouchers at DLR. I redeemed mine in the past right at the ticketbooths.

Don't mean to highjack your thread, but I have a question. We are going to Disneyland April 3-6 and are planning on eating at Minnie's, Goofy's and Ariel's. Would it be a good idea to get the meal vouchers? I like having it already paid for. Also I read that the tax and tip is included, is that true if so what is the amount to tip(15% or 18%). Thanks for the help.

Hi! Yes tax and tip is included. There is also a small discount if you purchase through GAT vs. paying at the resturant. I to like to pay in advance this way I feel like its done and taken care of. Sort of feels like I have less expenses while I'm there.

Character Meal vouchers are great! I've used GAT but also *ARES* *click Character Experiences and *LMT* *select Anaheim *put your date/dates in * *select Restaraunts

So basically the "discount" through buying on one of these sites is that you don't have to pay the tax or tip?

And when you purchase the voucher it is for a specific day? Was looking at LMT and it has a drop down box for which day of my stay to select. ?? TIA!

Yes, well if I remember right it was something we printed out and turned in to the ticket counter *there are multiple* at DLR.

We haven't used the Get Away Today vouchers before since we have other means of obtaining discounts, i.e. APs, Disney Visa. To know if they are a good deal for you, I recommend calling Disney dining and getting pricing information for whatever buffet you are are going to. Make sure they make clear if you are being quoted prices before or after tax and tip. When you pay at some of the buffets, Goofy's for example, the cashier automatically applies a tip at a rate of at least 15%, but it might be up to 17% or 18% now, and then there's also the 8.75% for the sales tax. The Get Away Today vouchers cover the whole price, including the tax and tip. From what I've been able to tell, it seems to me the only time Get Away Today character vouchers might be beneficial is if you don't have other discount options and you're going during high time when seasonal pricing increases. During spring break, summer, and holiday time, Disney raises the prices on the character dining. The Disney dining rep I talked to last week said she expected seasonal pricing to next kick in around April.

I was checking out LMT for the character vouchers and it states that 3 and under there is no charge. However, when you select ages it's for 10 & up or for 3-9?
Does anyone know which it is? I have twin 3 year olds

Oh my gosh - that is an enormous sum to pay for a pre-paid tip in case the service wasn't great and can you just imagine how many people who leave their cash tip on the table without knowing about this?? (Bold font, above...) Thanks for the heads ups!
