Get well wishes to Princess Jes!

Glad you're feeling better. And best of luck to your father-in-law. I have a few friends and a few patients who are organ donor recipients. Technically, my wife is a recipient too as she had her anterior cruciate ligament replaced in 1999 with a donor ligament.
Thank you Steve - you reminded me - I have donor bone in my neck, and I am eternally grateful.

It it's certainly something I don't wish upon anyone (to require a transplant) but I'm glad that the technology exists and it's available to us

Thanks Mary Jo xx
He's gone into theater, we are waiting for the call that surgery is beginning.
Unfortunately, they can cancel right up until he's under anesthetic, so just waiting in the cafe for now.

It was horribly emotional to say our "I love you" and "you'll be fine" to someone going into this kind of surgery (the success rate during the procedure isn't exactly high... Just over 50% we were told)
But, he's tough, we need him to get through it.

Thanks Mary Jo xx

Crossing fingers and sending major pixie dust here, Jes....please keep us updated!

DH and I have just gotten home (1pm) but haven't heard from his mum about whether FIL is in surgery. I assume he is.

Thanks so much for your well wishes, it's very much appreciated

Hey guys.
The surgery went well. We got confirmation that the actual transplant had occurred and was successful, they were still finishing it up but we're really happy with how it had gone so far (this was 2.5 hours ago)
He should be in ICU by now, my MIL and BIL were going to head in, the next 12 hours are still very critical and he'll be in an induced coma for the next 24-48 hours with an epidural for probably 5-6 days after the surgery.

Thank you all for your positive thoughts and wishes, we're not out of the woods yet, but we're definitely through the biggest part.

Thanks guys.
We had another update last night, they wanted to wake him up already!!
The only reason they didn't was because he was quite anxious and stressed prior to the surgery, so they thought it best to keep him asleep for a little bit longer just to let his body rest a bit.
So sounds like he might be awake today?!
MIL said she could see his chest moving and breathing normally - something she hasn't seen in about 3 years.

Thanx for the good news, Jes. I have to admit you made some salty liquid appear in my eye sockets over your MIL's statement. Continuing the pixie dust from here to there!

Thanks Heidi!
And...
HE'S AWAKE!!!
I just got to work, and I really need to be here, I've barely been to work in the past 2 weeks, and it's end of month and my boss is away on leave, but, I'll be going in this evening to see him. I'm so excited!!!

It was unbelievable guys.
I was expecting him to doze in and out of sleep, be groggy and a bit "off with the fairies" but instead we had a wonderful chat for 2 hours about the surgery, his recovery, our family and friends. It was like talking to him 5 years ago.
What a blessing.

OMG - SO happy for you to hear that!! Thanx for the smile! :)

Jes - Have thought about it several times, but am just now finally getting around to asking - how are you feeling, and how is your FIL doing?
