Get the light spinner now or wait?

I'm going to be dropping by our local DS. I know they have the light spinner souvenirs there for 9.99. Should I go ahead and buy them now for my DDs or should I wait to purchase them at WDW. A cast member at the store told me that the ones in the park are different. Is it something I should wait on because they are special to WDW or is it not worth the extra $?

BTW, look at my trip counter!!! It's getting really close!!!

We paid around $12 each for them in WDW (in Epcot to be precise). We got a sorcerer Mickey one and a Buzz Lightyear one. It would be nice to pay less, but there's something special about getting them IN WDW. :) I think it's worth the extra few dollars if you want them to be a true WDW souvenir. :)

I'm a "buy everything ahead" type of gal...

I bought them for $3 apiece last year and packed them (along with wands, washcloths, candy, cellphones, etc.) in various 75% off sales at DS.

I then left them on pillows "from Mickey" for when the girls came back to the room...it was fabulous.

They never ONCE asked for a THING during a weeks' stay at any of the parks...they knew they'd get a SURPRISE when they got back to the room.

I read that tip on these boards and for my family, it worked like a charm!!!

(I also packed those lightup necklaces for the fireworks shows and other trinkets that I'd gotten on very good sales)...

We go in the fall, so all that stuff is dirt cheap when I'm packing :teeth:

There's something special about buying it at WDW. We took DD's last year and she still eyed the light up cart. I would wait to buy one there and let your child pick it out. What we paid at WDW was less than they wanted at Disney on Ice this year, $12.00 sounds about right. DH even said it wasn't worth carrying it around in the backpack all day. This year we will let her get another one, just to see how happy it makes her!

For a $2 savings, I wouldn't worry with packing them. If you could get them on a sale and save more, I'd go ahead and do it.

We bought ours at DS ahead of time & packed them. I wrote their names on them with a paint pens for a fun personalized touch. My kids still have them & are planning on taking them back on our next WDW trip. As far as carrying them around, we stayed on site & would come back to our rooms for a little break before dinner. We'd pick up the twirlers then so we would have them in the park for the evening.

A side note - if your kids like to use them alot, don't forget to pack extra batteries!

I went ahead and bought one in advance from Ebay. It was cheaper and was the character that DS liked (Pooh), but when I broke it out on the trip, he played with it for a little while and then I played with it the rest of the time. :teeth:

It did not strike his fancy as much as I thought it would. He will play with it at home sometimes, but it's no big deal to him.

Next trip, I'm not going to worry about buying souvies ahead of time. DH was sooooo excited over the parks themselves, he wasn't really interested in any souveniers. His parents :teeth: , grandparents and uncle were more interested in piling souvies on him than he was!

So you might want to wait til you get to the parks to see if your DDs are even interested in them.

Just my 2 cents.:wave2:

I would be careful about packing them if you do buy ahead - my son's must have been squished in the "on" position in his bag - result: dead batteries! (and you don't want to lose your savings by buying park priced batteries!)

were bought ours at the outlet malls once we got to orlando. I think we paid like $1.00 for them.
