Get that Owners Locker before the $25 luggage charge!

The question is if/when the others are going to follow suit. Some smaller carriers have already been doing this for a while.

I think this is the wave of the future... If United can make it stick expect all the majors to follow.......

Americans want to pay $50 a flight.... Here's a hint if your airfare cost LESS then it you would pay in gas to drive to MCO then the airline LOST money on you.:rotfl: The model doesn't work. So they have to make it up someplace.

Spirt already charges for all checked luggage. I think Allegiagant does too....

The FAs on NW were roaming the aisles selling food last time I flew....

(Personally I LOVE my Owner's Locker and since UA flies practically no flights out of my airport this doesn't impact me YET!)

To sign up for your owner's locker. What a great service by great guys. If all the airlines start to charge, (It's not if, but when) then it's time to buy stock in owner's locker. You know the aurlines can make more money moving our junk around than moving people!

Ok so you have to pay a one time fee of $75 bucks... Then you pay $99 a year for ONE visit a year, $25 for each addtional visit OR pay $179 per year for umlimited visits...

I think Most people are better off paying the $25 bucks for an extra bag. (unless your a family of four that needs 8 suitcases, and travel more than once a year)

I agree. OL wouldn't help us at all. We only travel to WDW once or twice a year. We travel other places besides WDW. I've never had to check more than one bag anyway, so I have no problem if the airlines want to charge fees to those who are checking excessive luggage. After all, the more luggage that's checked, the more fuel is used, and the more our ticket prices increase.

For us, OL is not really a matter of saving luggage as it is being able to have things down there that we'd never imagine flying with. We are putting a full size thing of tide, fabric softener, full size toiletries, and a few bottles of our favorite wine in our OL. I like doing laundry before we leave in the one bedroom we get so that I don't have to do it at home when I'm exausted (put a load in go to the pool! :rotfl: ) from travelling and can just pop the clothes back into drawers when we get home. I would NEVER travel with a liquid laundry soap though, which is what we generally use.

I'm also looking forward to being able to put duplicates of favorite children's toys in the box once we have them. That way some of the favorite toys at home do not have to be hauled back and forth between homes.

It's down to preference more than anything. If you can travel with only one checked luggage then I can't really see you needing it. It is going to work well for us I think though, even with only going down two or three times a year. :thumbsup2

I'm sure the owner's lockers are great for people that do quite a bit of cooking in the room and/or visit more than once or twice a year. We drive quite often and can pack about anything we want. But even on the occasion when we fly, I've never had to bring more than one suitcase per person. We usually make a quick grocery stop for a few items and that seems to take care of us just fine. This past trip we were there for two weeks and I was still able to get by with one suitcase and one quick trip to Publix. Even if we stored detergent and such in the locker, we would need to stop at the store for perishables like juice, milk, fruit, etc., oh yeah, and beer! :thumbsup2

Maybe that's the difference though? We take magical express instead of any other service or renting our own car so getting off the complex is a little harder unless we take a taxi (which I really have no experience with). We have Garden Grocer deliver the groceries to the resort instead. I can see us being more willing to not have a locker if we were driving or had the ability to stop at a grocery store on the way in.

Well I travel to a LOT of other places in addition to Disney and still use OL. I can now do carryon only to Disney LOL!

I hope this is the right place to ask this and get a response:
Has anyone EVER had a problem with anything being lost or stolen with OL? It sounds like most of what is being stored could be easily replaced, but if I wanted to take some of our wedding supplies down over my next couple of trips in advance of our January Disney vow renewal, is there any risk at all whatsoever?

We purchased a combination lock to additionally secure our locker. It fits thru the end latch easily. You'll need one with a long shackle (I think ours has a 2" shackle) and , of course, be sure to use a combination you can remember!

The security tags also add some sense of confidence. We totally trust the OL staff and also feel the same way about the Bell Staff, but we have an additional level of confidence with our own lock on the locker.

The security tags provided by OL are all numbered and can't be opened without destroying the tag - they are mostly a deterrent and you can tell at a glance if they have been tampered with. The lock just adds another level.

I am sure Owner's Locker is a great service for those who go multiple times a year--coming from the left coast--I will be lucky to get to WDW once or twice a year.

Has anyone shipped some of their luggage to the resort ahead of time? I will be traveling with an elderly person in a wheelchair and am concerned about handling the luggage and her at the same time, so was thinking if I could ship the bulk of our luggage to the resort, then we could just do carry-ons with essentials (like medicines etc.) and I wouldn't have to hassle luggage and pushing a wheelchair. Thoughts?

We've shipped luggage, Christmas trees, sand buckets, and many other things UPS. It's certainly cheaper than what OL would cost us to store those things.

Hey gang,

Thanks for your comments. First of all, Owner's Locker is not for everybody. We know this. And we know that people have been coming to Orlando for quite some time without an Owner's Locker and have gotten along just fine.

The key to understanding how Owner's Locker can benefit you is to contemplate what you might store that you would NOT ship back and forth or carry in your luggage. Like a Brita water filter; a full sized bottle of detergent; wine and liquor bottles; plates; champagne glasses; a vase for flowers; a full sized keyboard; a printer; a cast iron skillet; a Cuisinart; an espresso machine; a crock pot.

Now, before you say, "are you nuts?" let me assure you that our Members tell us they store lots of things like this. And our heaviest Locker (so far) tips the scales at a bit over 90 pounds. (check the shipping costs on that!)

You can say, "Gee, but I don't NEED those things," and you'd be right. But our Members WANT those things so Owner's Locker makes sense for them.

One of our Members recently made these comments to us and it sums thing up far better than I can:

"There are lots of great reasons why you should be interested in Owner's Locker and one reason why you will get a Locker. It's all about YOU!!!!

It has made my vacations easier , more enjoyable and less stressful. Before I even leave for vacation it's made my life easier , knowing my Owner's Locker will be waiting for me at my resort when I arrive filled with many of my things. I start my vacation off with less to pack , I can get 9 days of vacation stuff into my carry on. I've done this twice.

I can do this because of what is in the locker. I have things from sneakers to swimsuits. I have full size toiletries and hangers too. What I have in there, that I would never have without the locker is stuff that makes me feel a little more " home comfy " stuff like candles and corkscrews, mickey ice cube trays. I have salt, pepper and a favorite coffee mug! I keep a camera battery charger and spare cell phone charger in there too! I have a lot of other things that make my stays in a resort much more enjoyable.

Having a locker is nice , but what makes this product stand out is , John and Brian, the owners. They understand its our precious money and vacation time at stake. In the last 13 months I've used them 4 times , with unbelievably fantastic results. When I first started using the service I was unsure of a few things and Owners Locker took the time to answer all of my questions when I called.

The service given by Owners Locker is absolutely first class. They go above and beyond making sure you have a smooth transition from " life mode to vacation mode! "

You might think you like it if you try it , but it's when you use it for the second time that you'll know you can't do without it !"

Just wanted to add one thing re: the Owner's Locker. Yes, you could probably accomplish the task by shipping items from home, etc. But, this requires you to gather your items, then pack them, then drag them to the post office or ups store. Then, you have to do the same thing at the end of your vacation.

The Owner's Locker frees you up from this chore. While I would never go so far as to call this chore a hardship, it could be considered quite inconvenient depending on my schedule the week before I leave on vacation. For example, I work all week (as does my DH) and we leave on Saturday morning for vacation. I would have to squeeze time out of my schedule to accomplish this chore. Not always easy, since most of the time the post office is closed at the time I leave for work, and closed by the time I get home from work.

The last time I shipped items down, it cost more than $20. If I'd shipped the items home, it would have been another $20. (I didn't ship my stuff home, I put my stuff in an OL). That's $40, nearly half the yearly fee to keep an OL.

In addition, the next time we went to Florida and used our OL, I stored some items I would normally have discarded (i.e. open bottle of cognac, several cans of soda, non-perishable food items, open container of laundry detergent). The next time we go, I will not have to spend money to purchase these items, and more important, will not need to waste my valuable vacation time going shopping for them. And, the second time we went, I saved myself $40 in roundtrip shipping.

OL may not work for everyone, but it does work splendidly for us

Well, in our case I would probably be shipping things like extra clothes and shoes--things that we wouldn't want to store for a year or so when we got back to Florida because we'd need them--I was not thinking so much of things like cognac (although like that idea!)--it is really just a way for me to get our things to Florida without me having to deal with them on the trip (when I'm going to be stressed out anyway because I HATE flying!)

with me, my DH and DD we never have more than 3 bags checked (plus a stroller and sometimes a travel bed for DD--if we have to pay extra--the bed will just stay at home). WHile I LOVE the owners locker idea we havent been traveling enough to WDW to make it worth the $$ for us but I can definitely see the convenience factor of not having to lug things like coffee filters, lotion, shampoo beach shoes etc. back and forth.

And may I add the convenience of OL if your luggage doesn't make it when you do!!

We were at WVL last week. I traveled in on Tuesday from the Midwest when there were numerous weather problems between my home city and Orlando. Instead of a fairly straight shot and getting in about 4 PM, I was routed from Oklahoma, to Dallas, to New Orleans and finally checked into WVL by about 8 PM. My luggage did not make it in with me, however my Locker was waiting. Somewhat the worse for wear I was able to change into some comfy clothes (shorts and tee in the Locker), make a cup of herb tea (tea bags in the Locker), take 2 Excedrin (also) and re charge my now dead phone so I could keep in contact with DH who was arriving from a different city even later than I did (charger in the Locker). My luggage finally got in after midnight, but it could have been even later.

Thumbs up for Owners Locker.:thumbsup2

I just signed up for Owners Locker... Now with the Airlines charging you to check luggage or checking your second bag, this for me and my family was a great idea. We are making our first trip in November where we will pack our first Owners Locker. I have already started to set things aside to put in it. This is going to save us a lot of time every time we go to Disney, all we will have to worry about is packing our clothes!

:)

United also announced I think it was last month that as of August, they will be charging $15 for the FIRST checked bag, $25 for the second checked bag. I bought my August tickets in January, so this will not apply to me. However my December trip it will apply, so my plan is to bring as much as I can next month and put in my OL. :thumbsup2

I flew United in May and their 2nd bag was already $25. In fact, they tried to charge me $25 to check my son's booster seat  . I flat out refused and carried it on...I only paid $15 for the thing in the first place, I wasn't about to pay $50/RT!!!

And second, I signed up for Owner's Locker this year and will be using it for the first time in August. It's ridiculous how excited I am about it too!! I have a plastic tub all packed and ready (we're driving down in August - first to Vero Beach and then heading up to WDW and will have our OL delivered to us at SSR) and it's loaded with toiletries, extra bathing suits, booze:rolleyes1 , Lg. coffee mugs, coffee, powdered creamer, laundry stuff, makeup, hair stuff, spare cell phone charger, spare camera memory card, golf balls, etc...to store in our locker...all the junk that basically takes up an extra suitcase when we travel anyway, or that I have to ship down separately.

I'm very excited to know that all I have to do is show up with my clothes for my November trip and all my stuff will...well, Magically show up!!:goodvibes

I've had a couple of occasions where I've had questions and John emailed me very quickly and answered everything...I'm really looking forward to dealing with them and think it's an amazing idea. Especially these days where you can't carry liquids on airplanes and all the extra baggage fees.

I'm already a satisfield customer and I haven't even started yet!:rotfl:

I figure my Owner's Locker will pay for itself (much like my DVC membership already has!) between my August and November WDW visits. :thumbsup2 I'm only sorry I didn't think of it first!!
