Does anyone know how to get rid of old freezer taste? I have a large upright freezer that is about 38 years old and still works great. This summer we cleared it out and used baking soda and Dawn to clean it . We left the door open for a week. We started it up again and it still gives everything that awful taste. I then cleaned it with a lemon juice solution. That didn't work. I made some Christmas cookies, wrapped them and put them in an air tight tin and they still picked up that bad taste. If I can't fix this I will have to get a new freezer.:sad::sad:

You can try white vinegar. Just stick it in a spray bottle and spray away. (don't water it down) If that doesn't work you could make a paste with vinegar and baking soda. We had a brand new freezer go bad one time when we were away. I can not even begin to tell you what a mess we had. The vinegar worked. Good Luck!

It still works fine but a new one would probably be a lot more energy efficient.

A new one will be much bmore energy efficient.

Put some coffee grounds in there, in a filter or cup or something open. Shut the door and leave it overnight. It will help. I put coffee grounds in my freezers every time we move and it never gets that sour smell. I can't ship them left open so that's the best trick.

You might try plenty of charcoal briquettes and leave for several days. I was once faced with a similar situation, and got a new uprite freezer. They are resonably priced, and you would come out on top with the much smaller energy bills. Good luck!
