When I drive my dd to school, there are always kids riding their bikes in the middle of the street and walking in the middle of the street. The kids also tend to cross without looking both ways. I saw one boy laying in the middle of the road playing and another on a different day put his hand up like a crossing guard would, and walk across a busy street without even stopping at the curb. Cars brakes were screetching, parents were inside their cars shaking fingers and heads. This is a daily thing. There are no school busses for our elementary (or junior high) because, it's within walking distance of all the children attending. So, all the kids either, ride bikes, walk, or parents drive them. If you were a parent of one of these kids, what would you want the people in your neighborhood to do? Tell you? Mind their own business? I don't know where half of these kids live.

I also see little kids in the front yards (& streets) playing all the time without an adult nearby. Our (2) neighborhoods have sidewalks but, a lot of people won't use them. Why??? I want to shout at them to get out of the road for their own safety.

I see parents and kids walking through the local Wal-Mart parking lot without a care in the world. They just don't care about the cars behind them. They walk down the middle of the parking lot instead of getting over. I guess people think that "If I'm run over, they'll pay for it" but, if you (or your kid) is dead, it won't matter how much money you get, you're still dead.

This is my pet peeve, obviously. I want to shout GET OUT OF THE ROAD PEOPLE!!!

I totally agree. noone is watching these kids. atho if you come close to one in a parking lot people come out of the woodwork to yell at you and tell you I will sue you. Last Christmas at Walmart I was going very slow in front of the enterence barely crawling and a 8yr old came running out of the store right in front of me of course I could stop but the Mother followed me as I parked the car and started ranting and raving that I almost killed her daughter and I should do several things I don't want to repeat.

I totally agree. There are these 2 houses full of kids down the block from me. They are ALWAYS playing in the street instead of their backyards/sidewalks/frontyards. My parents and I constantly yell at them to stop playing in the street. I've passed by while their parents are outside and they are in the street and the parents just don't care. The father once looked at me like I was horrible for driving down the road. Another time two of the kids and their mother were playing basketball in the street. They finally moved off to the side so I could pass and the older of the two kids kept throwing the ball at the hoop and he almost lost control just as I passed by. So I slam on the brakes. I screamed at them because he almost gave me a heart attack and as I pass by the little kid gives me the finger, and he was no older than 6! And the mother still didn't care!

Oh and get this. They have a dog. Well dog #3. They have lost 2 dogs already because they let it out in the front of the house without a leash and it goes into the street. A good friend of mine hit one of their dogs and felt absolutely horrible for it. Their response, "Oh, we'll just get another one."

So I completely understand. I absolutely cannot stand it. If I ever did any of this when I was young I would have been spanked for it. Parents need to start keeping track of their kids.

My dad would have spanked me too and we lived in the country not, in a busy neighborhood. I'm not saying parents should spank their kids. They just need to tell them the rules of the road and hang around to enforce them. I totally agree, the parents have no idea what their kids are doing on the way to and from school.

I was in the Walmart parking lot yesterday and actually saved a kid from running in front of a car. He couldn't have been more then 3. The mother yelled at him to stop ONCE. Then when she FINALLY caught up to where we were she just told him that "If this nice lady didn't help you, you would have gotten hit". What was wrong with her? Did she not care if her son was struck down by a car? When I got into Walmart I told the lady at the door what happened and pointed out the lady. She just said "Oh, thank you".
