Feeling lousy. I've been drinking more water which shed those few pounds that were the way over the norm for me pounds. But the last week I've lost nothing even though I've gone from not exercising at all to running three mornings a week. I've had oatmeal/yogurt for breakfast and salad and fruit for lunch. Dinner is the hardest for me- it's hard to track and portion control.
Any suggestions for goals for dinner?
Last week I tried to cut myself of from sweets and it worked for a few days until there was a birthday in my class with amazing cupcakes- had to have one!!!!

I don't eat bread but pasta is such a cheap, easy meal. I need a plan for those nights. Love spinach. I think my goal for this week is to take a small plate for dinner to portion control whatever I make and a separate plate to load up on vegetables or salad??

A couple weeks ago I made angel hair pasta that was the Smart Pasta (not sure of the brand) which is high in fiber, etc. Sauce was Prego Lite Smart and I mixed into my sauce some leftover roasted veggies I had made from the night before. So good! Summer squash, zucchini, red peppers, orange peppers and broccoli. I got one cup of pasta, put just enough sauce on to make the noodles red and added in the veggies. It was more then enough.

Sounds silly but you might not be eating enough so that your body is holding on to what it has so it can fuel your running. I've recently started making stir fry for dinner once a week. Big pan of assorted veggies with some chicken or whatever meat you might like. And I don't cut anything out. I eat pasta, bread, sweets, etc; I just eat small amounts of it and not every day. I also make sure that what I am eating is the correct serving size and that it's high in fiber, low and fat; not a lot of Weight Watcher points. It's hard but it is going to be worth it. At least that is what I keep telling myself.![]()

Joining in!!!! I have about 40 lbs I'd like to lose before our August vacation. I have been working on my diet for almost 2 years. I was down about 85lbs. but have gained about 25 back.The holidays this year really derailed me and this year's winter weather has me really down. But with spring around the corner and our trip in August, I have rededicated myself.
I started using My Fitness Pal in May of 2012 and have had great success with it. I like logging my meals and it really taught me about portion control. What I considered a serving was just so far off the mark! Has anyone ever measured a 1/2 cup of ice cream??? Not so pretty...![]()
I just got a fitbit to help me re-start and have linked it up to My Fitness Pal and absolutely love it!! I really like the challenge of getting to those 10,000 steps everyday...thank goodness for wii fit and free step to get me to my goal. I'm not a gym person, but I love to walk...when the weather turns around I will get back out there. For now, I try to workout at home.

I don't so much care about weight. I just checked for the first time in over 4 months - I have 15lbs more than my pre-pregnancy weight - baby's 6 months old now. I really don't care one way or the other about a number, it means nothing to me. However, I do care about how I feel. Right now I feel tired and sluggish much of the time, which may be due to lack of sleep, hormones, or lack of exercise. And my body hurts.
I want to get back into yoga, and will likely start doing some lady spartan again. I own 2 swim suits, neither fits me. I don't know if I'll ever fit either one again - this was baby 4 after all - but I want to feel confident enough to wear them again if by chance my hips shrink a bit. It took 18 months after my 3rd, but this time I feel confident and comfortable with myself, where as last time I was so upset about my body. I've come a long way in 3 years!
I'm currently 3 sizes larger than pre-pregnancy. If I get back to pre pregnancy, then I don't need to spend my money on clothes. BUt if I need clothes, then it's money that is not spent at Disney.
Things I'm already doing are, following a meal plan - mediterranean diet from e-meals, and being happy with where I am now, and knowing that my body shape has nothing to do with who I am...
My goal is to create a plan. And actually start doing something. And to shake this cold I've had for the passed 3 months.
I also want to improve my sleep. Lack of sleep makes it very difficult to be healthy and positive. I want both.

I've been mixing yogurt and plain instant oatmeal for breakfast.

Thank you so much for the idea! This morning I put a tbsp of chia seeds in about the same amount of warm water and and set it aside. I cut up half an apple and added oats, some water, a small of amount of brown sugar (don't think I needed it though; will try without tomorrow), and cinnamon. I microwaved that for a few minutes, then added the chia seeds and about 1/2 cup yogurt. This was really good! I also wanted to say a small word of caution for drinking tons of water. To clarify, for most people I think drinking water is going to be fine and healthy, especially if you're working out alot. But I was having some weird symptoms and for me it turned out to be too much water added to it rather than helped it. On my last well visit to my doctor, my blood sodium concentration turned out to be really low. It's supposed to be 135 to 145 mEq/L; mine was 127. From what I read 125 is considered serious. So I drank less water and my last reading was 135, so my doctor is not doing anything at the moment. It's very confusing and I'm not sure what's causing this. I was being very careful about how much salt I ate too due to my high blood pressure, so I may have been taking in too little salt, or my body was retaining the fluid I was drinking making the overall concentration low. The main issue with this is brain swelling (very scary), so I was having the symptoms I just didn't know what was causing it. The symptoms are weakness, fatigue, headache, nausea and vomiting (didn't have this, but my stomach bothered me whenever I ate), muscle cramps, confusion, irritability. I just didn't make the connection because I thought it was simple PMS and/or pre-menaposal symptoms. I was also have trouble with focusing my eyes. Again, figured I was dealing with middle 40s eye stuff. I have been drinking less water for about a month now and feel so much better. Like I can actually focus on a task and have some energy. But I think it's a band-aid. The real problem is I need to drop some pounds and get healthy. Now I have the energy to do so. I was feeling a lot better last summer. I thought that I was have issues with food. I noticed my tongue burning after vinegar and began to equate it with maybe food allergies or sensitivities. (I know, I sound like a wreck. I'm not a complainer though or a hypochondriac type. I usually just deal and get on with my day. I'm too busy and have too many other people that need me in my life. My doctor scolded me.. nicely.. told me if I didn't take care of myself I couldn't help anyone.) I know I'm allergic to eggs and tomatoes. I also have mold allergies and because last spring was so wet (we literally had hundreds of mushrooms growing in our lawn), these started spilling over into reactions to food. I went on a elimination diet. I cut back to really simple foods. I had a smoothie for breakfast, a salad for lunch and a dinner. I basically had only chicken and fish, brown rice or quinoa, and any fruits and vegetables except for nightshade plants or anything like mushrooms. I stayed away from coffee (eek) and condiments (vinegar). Used lemon and olive oil or coconut oil. I didn't starve and I lost 15 pounds in 15 days. That's how much water I was retaining. My blood pressure went to normal almost instantly. I felt better. I was terrified to go into phase two where you start adding things back in because I didn't want to feel bad again. So why did I stop? Went on vacation. I tried to stick with stuff, but at restaurants it was mostly impossible. And I tried to go back, I really did. But things crept back here and there. It was almost like an addict trying to quit after a relapse. And it was so hard making my own separate meals because I had to adapt stuff for my kids. Then the holidays came. And now I'm so sick of being cold the look of a smoothie or salad seems like torture. Oh, and did I mention I had a knee injury last year.. Sorry for my rant, but it feels so good to get that out. Now that I had my little pity-fest, I'm going to let it go and move forward. Time for me to exercise!

I have fitbit flex and five different color bands.
I have found that within ten pounds of your weight, or if you want to lose even though you are in normal range BMI, that you need a faster metabolism. I eat five times a day, about 300 calories each time. I shoot for high protein and high fiber. I eat eggs, oatmeal, apples, chicken breast, Greek yogurt, salads with minimal dressing@ 15 calories per tablespoon serving. For the main entrees, i use nutrisystem.
When i plateaued near my ideal weight- it took exercise in the endurance type. I currently walk 5 miles or 10000 steps a day. I do not run because i do not want to hurt my knees and have a lower quality of life in older ages.
I see, read, hear so many stories about women running and other strenuous exercising and they do not like their results. So, I would rather take longer to get my calories burned and I have found that I am very pleased with my results.

This is me too. I try not to tell myself I can't eat stuff, just makes me want it more.But I did buy a cheap kitchen scale and if I am not sure if I am portioning something correctly, I just weigh it. Once I can see how much something weighs, it is easier to judge when I am not at home and trying to stick to a portion size. I know this sounds a little extreme, but I really needed help with my portion control.
I also love putting lemon and lime slices in my water. Not sure if it is true, but someone told me that doing that helps to boost metabolism. Just an added bonus to better tasting water!!!![]()
