Get dress to Florida

Hi everyone. Im a UK bride and was wondering if anyone had already travelled to Orlando with their wedding dress and what they did with it?We are flying with virgin and we know the dimensions of the hand luggage but the only travel boxes we can find are either a bit smaller or a bit bigger. We rang virgin and they suggested we vaccum pack my address as apparently a few ppl have done this. HOWEVER i want a ronald joyce dress and its huuugggeee so im so stuck as wot on earth i can. does anyone have any suggestions?i really dnt wnt to have to get a dress i totally dnt wnt *** i cnt get it over there.

My dress for my recent VR was heavy satin with a long train and I managed to have the bridal boutique pack it into a box I purchased on Ebay (just search for 'Wedding dress travel boxes on Ebay) which was the exact dimensions allowed for hand luggage. I had quite a lot of dress and it fitted it perfectly well. the seller even personalized the box with our names, location and date. My dress traveled all the way in the overhead locker and never left my sight!!

Thanks very much. I dnt even care if i have to pay extra in hand luggage *** of weight etc. im taking it on the plane there is no way im checking it in in my case

I have quite a big dress which I have also purchased a box for from ebay which is find for Virgins hand luggage size limits (there is no way im checkin it in)

Many brides have taken big dresses as hand luggage in either boxes or cabin size cases with no problems

Am I missing something? I had every intention of transporting my dress in my checked luggage (it's smaller than the average wedding dress and the fabric doesn't crease), but is there some reason why I shouldn't do this? I imagine everyone carries the suits in the checked luggage, and the shoes and everything else, so why not the dress? Is it just the fact that it may get creased or something?

Hi epcotgirl..I won't speak for all brides, but my future one will be buying one of the boxes mentioned before for the following reasons

1) checked baggage..the rule is..the more important it is, the more likely it is to get lost
2) have you seen the way checked baggage is treated?
3) did I mention that checked baggage gets lost when it shouldn't?

We both know that that instances of that are small, but the only sure fire 100% way to know your dress will arrive with you is to carry it on in the cabin. We like 100% better than 98% so we'll be getting one of those fancy boxes (if they ship us one from the UK?!)

To each her own, though and we all wish happy dress arrivals for all the Disney Brides.

So it's just about the possibility of the airline losing it? To be honest, I'd be more upset if they lost my shoes I'm not too attached to my dress (I'm really not like other girls). If my luggage got lost I'd be more worried about stuff other than my dress I guess.

Looks like mine is still going in the hold.

I used a cabin sized suitcase, I had a pretty big dress and got it in with no problems.

Not sure if this will help but I carried my Daughter's gown on Southwest without any problem at all. She had a princess gown with a full train. It was in a dress bag that I just folded over and stored in the overhead. Of course that left my husband and I without any space for a carry on suitcase but it was fine, and so was the gown. I even stashed her aisle runner in the bag as we couldn't fit in in checked suitcases.

I'm getting one of the boxes from ebay as well. There's no way a £1,250 dress is leaving my sight. We have never lost a piece of luggage yet but have had a buggy travel half way round the world on five airlines in order to reach us 4 days later and that was only to Lanzarote from the UK!

Do you know, i am so very glad that I didn't put my dress in a suitcase and check it in because when we got to Orlando, one of my suitcases (and it was a brand new on!) had been squashed and damaged!! Luckily, there was nothing of vast importance in there - just casual clothes etc for the rest of the trip and all the VR stuff (welcome bags, shoes, men's suits etc) were in other bags. Can you imagine how I would have been panicking if that damaged suitcase had contained my dress!!

That's a very good idea, and I know many brides have done it, but the OP is, like me, from the UK and buying a seat for the dress would be extremely expensive.

I'm having my dress shipped to a family members house near Disneyland so that I'm not having a heart attack on the flight down worrying about it.

I feel like I'm the only bride here getting married in Orlando that actually lives in orlando! You girls are ahead of me though. At least you have your dresses!
