Oh, that picture brings back some wonderful memories. While I was stationed in Germany from 1986 to 1991, we made many trips to Ludwig's castles. I'm missing German Christmases already this year--I plan to hang out quite a bit in the German pavilion at EPCOT to get just a taste of all that again. Thanks for sharing.
How do you get a picture of the front of the Neuschwanstein castle?
I was told that I needed to hire a "Fueher" (Tour Leader), to climb some dangerous clift. I think these are located past the bridge were most people stop for pictures.

We walked up to the bridge after we toured the castle. Thats where I took the full view photo. If we had had time we would have trekked furthur. The castle tours were guided. I've seen a great shot that was most likely taken from that route on the other side of the bridge- I think we were told it was a bit difficult and real hiking gear would have been needed. The picture of the front of the castle was taken as we left the castle tour and headed back to town. Both these shots could have been taken just by walking up the road to the castle. No guide/tour needed. I don't believe we would have needed a guide if we went past the bridge. There wasn't anything there to stop hikers.

There is a nice view of the castle at this site. Also there is a map of the area. It does show some hiking trails. If I ever go back there- and I hope I do-I'd love to hike out past the bridge. Maybe a local shop would have a good hiking map.
