German Exchange Student questions?

I will be an exchange student going to Germany for 3 weeks in June! Our teacher advised that we bring gifts over to our host family to show our appreciation for letting me stay with them. We will stay with our host families for 2 weeks and then tour Germany for 1 week. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can bring to them as gifts. I'm a 16 year old girl and my host partner is also a 16 year old girl. I'm from Wisconsin {cheese is not an option!} and she is from Lampertheim. Any ideas?!

Personally I would look to take them some things that are unique to where you live and have something to do with your area.

I don't know anything about Wisconsin so I can't suggest anything in particular.

have you asked her if she is with Disney? As there is no more Disney Store at Germany I guess they will love the stuff.

And what about a notification bracelet? they not known that much at Germany and I guess a 16 year old girl will love it.

As I live at Germany I really would like to get thinks like beef jerkey, peanut butter and all things about Disney

Really, you don't have peanut butter there?! I guess we take some things for granted here! What about candy...say like Snickers? My teacher suggested chocolate chips since they're not readily available there? We'll also be traveling to Berlin, Dresden, Bad Homburg, and Frankfurt and also some day trips with their school. She will come here for 3 weeks in October to visit our school.

Also, what is a notification bracelet? Anything anyone could tell me about Lampertheim would be greatly appreciated also!

They do have most kinds of chocolate in Germany, they do have snickers. Maybe take some American chocoalte like reeses pieses. Anything disney should go down well too. And maybe a fridge magnet from wisconsin

One of my sons went on an exchange visit to Germany a couple of years ago, and my other son is doing so next year.

Our exchange visited us first and brought with him a book about his area (in English!) with beautiful colour photos, and he also brought a huge box of marzipan made locally to him.

When my son went over to stay with him and his family in Germany, we were also encouraged by the teachers to buy something local - we went to our local tourist office and brought items such as Elsenham jams in a presentation box (Elsenham is not far from us) and a booklet with pictures of historical places in our town, and some English Tea packaged in a tin shaped like an English red postbox (pillar box).

I would honestly not take chocolate to Germany - they have a huge variety of these sorts of things. I'd really recommend getting something that is local to you.

okay you will find peanut butter here, but not at any grocery. You will get at Walmart and the bigger ones. We have Snickers here, but Butterfinger and Hersleys are hard to find.

Lampertheim is a city with 274000 inhabitants near Frankfurt at the so called Bergstrasse. There are a lot of historical buildings.

I live in Germany and I second the no chocolate - all my American friends like ours more! All my local supermarkets sell peanut butter and I can get Reese's in quite a few local shops - like Walmart! Again, I second taking local things - you can't go wrong with something if it's only available where you live. Calendars, pens, caps (they're more expensive here) T-shirts/tops, books with pretty pictures. How about a CD for the 16-year-old? Maybe by a local band? They're more expensive here than in America. DVDs and videos only work on specially adapted players but CDs are ok.

I agree completely about the chocolate--their's is sooooo much better than ours.

I like the idea of a picture book of your area. Coffee table books are pricey over there. An Abercrombie t-shirt for a teenager would go down well too.
