Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

OK this site does not like me either. I sign in and then it wipes out my post and wants me to sign in again. I’m typing this in Word so I will have a copy. I’ll give it one more try and then call it quits.

I had typed a really long post, but it has gone to Never Never Land!!

I see they have something disabled, so maybe they have found their problem as it is not my computer.

The DIS board has done something different - YAY. It didn't wipe everything out.

Maybe Robin will not have to change her computer - hope so.

Have a good evening.

I forgot to tell you that Aunt Cynthia's also calls the dogs in for sleep at night into their own rooms where they have second hand sofas, etc. The dogs can sleep where and with whom they please. I wish Halle could come stay with us. Bonnie loves company. If you pass this way and can't take her, you can call on us anytime.

You are so sweet. I just told Halle about your offer! She wagged her tail!

Robin: Tom and I used to drive to Coloma, CA for a weekend drive as far back as when we were teenagers and drink malted shakes from a corner ice cream parlor. They were huge! Coloma is where the gold was discovered along the American River. It's a beautiful place and only about 40 minutes away from us. I am one of the few people I know that goes nuts for chocolate malts! I could chew and spit one of the cookies, LOL! Honestly, I love to bake to make other people happy.:dance3:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE chocolate malts!

Nell, yes he has to go to meetings as part of his probation. But it's like you said, they have to want to hear what people are saying.
He did call home today. He is rethinking his 72 hour stay. He is wanting to stay longer. He met a girl there he really likes. Maybe she'll have the influence to help him want to get better. But being that she's also a patient there, I personally don't like the idea. He needs to be working on himself, not trying to build a relationship. Just my 2 cents worth.

I think Nell meant your hubby - does he go to meetings? Maybe it would help him think with his head instead of his heart if he were to hear some of what he needs to hear from other people?

Your trip to the Y today sounds like so much fun. I bet you sleep well tonight!

I am a nervous wreck - there are so many crutial events in tonight's Olympics! I have to go take a bath to kill the time while I'm waiting. I had a breakthrough and took Bonnie for a walk before dinner. About 1/8 my normal distance before the knee said to go home, but it's amazing how I feel like I might just live again! All I needed was some sunshine and activity. Oh, and a full price offer on a gorgeous home I'm selling didn't hurt either. It's been a great day!

I need to take a new picture. My face is thinner now. I just realized!

Yay for the full price offer! Yes - get a new picture up!

I have been looking forward to tonight's Olympics ALL day!

Yep, I was talking about big Mike. I got really big swollen ankles tonight all of a sudden. I've got my feet up. I know I'm big, but this never happened to me before. I called the nurseline on my insurance card and I have to keep my feet up.

Sorry about that. It is so hard to live with 2 Mikes LOL. Must of left my brain at lunch yesterday. Mike does attend them once in a while. He has a very dear friend he talks to who has also told him what I have. Actually he and I have been gently reminding Mike to use his head.
Now I am just a little apprehensive about what will happen when Michael gets out of treatment. Mike seems to think Michael will end up going to a half way house. I guess time will tell.

Hi guys. Not as good night sleep as I thought I'd have. Don't know what was going on :( Feeling very groggy this morning. Just run down. I will get something to eat and see if that helps any.
Lisa, I'm glad you managed a small walk. I bet that made your day!! And I bet Bonnie was so happy too!! Can't wait to see a new picture!!
Have to get dressed to take Carrie to school. This school makes no friggin sense. Had a delay yesterday and the roads are in worse shape this morning and no delay or anything. Just makes me shake my head. I hope I can get to work at my morning lady's house. She lives on top of a large hill. If it's too slippery, I don't think I'll even chance it. I feel bad canceling her though. She is 82 (very active though) and just like to make sure she's ok. I will double check on her if I don't make it up.
Have a great day everyone!!

I also love Chocolate Malts. They are my favorite. When I used to drink them at DQ, I would ask for extra malt!

Yea! on the full price offer and I can't wait to see the new pic.

I have been stalled lately and even put on a couple pounds, :confused3 so I need to get my book back out and start to regroup. I have been one of the bad people that Diane blogged about a couple of weeks ago who was using dark chocolate as my total 11-20. Then, when I eat 1/2 of the bar, I crave the other half too. I need to get that chocolate out of my life completely I think. Maybe a quick 10 day Step 1 detox is what I really need, but I hate the thought of losing almost all my carbs again. I have been eating wheat thins and cheddar cheese for breakfast lately. I just need to totally regroup I guess.

I agree that he needs to get himself healthy before he can think about supporting another person through her emotional needs.
Hi everyone!! Just got back from the Y. Got there around 6:30 or so. I can't believe I put in 3 hours there! I tried the water aerobics and really like them. I did 35 minutes on the treadmill, did the steam room for 15, then did the aqua aerobics for an hour had open swimming for 1/2 hour then did another 15 in the steam room. My nose isn't clogged much at all!! I am feeling very relaxed and ready for bed. I doubt there will be school tomorrow. It's getting pretty nasty out. Really fine wet snow. It is getting slippery now.

Robin, I did try the Atkins shake in my coffee when I first started MM. I didn't like it at all!! I may try it again. I love to drink milk especially with spicy stuff, an tomato based sauce or soup, and of things when I eat popcorn. LOL I really miss it, but I'l survive. I can feel and see my stomach getting flatter again. It was bloated pretty well from the milk :( Hope you get your computer fixed soon. Miss having you here!!

Ok, off to bed for a great night's sleep. I'll try to catch up in the morning.
It sounds like you had a great (and busy time at the Y) :yay: I am another one that uses the vanilla atkins in my coffee. Of course, I should probably dump the coffee and just go back to the green tea.

Jocelyn - if you look at the technical board, they have some "fixes" for this exact issue. It has to deal with clearing your cookies while you are logged on to the Disboards, I think.

Be safe on the roads! Maybe all your exercise was a little bit overmuch, huh?

I wanted to let you all know about a pasta I found locally. It is a basil fettuccini that only has 3 carbs (I think) in a 4 ounce serving (which is 1/2 of a bag - way more than I eat in one serving). It is very good and works well with the Trader Joe's three cheese sauce which is also very low in carbs.

If any of you are interested, I was able to order some more on-line (since our local Apple Barns is closed for the winter). I paid nearly $10/bag, but it is nice to be able to have some pasta when the family is eating spaghetti.

You can find it at pastabysue.com. If you click on the free shipping banner on the front page, it is listed under the pastas. She was very responsive when I have sent a couple of e-mails.

Just wanted to let you know!

If he goes through 12 step program they will tell him not to have a love relationship for one year. As you said, addicts need that time to focus on themselves.

I have been looking forward to tonight's Olympics ALL day!

Last night's Olympics was the best night in forever! I got tears in my eyes! Had to tape some of it because of the lateness of the hour, but I switched it on this am without letting the news come on first. It's hard not to catch spoilers. Yeah USA!!!:woohoo:

It happens to me, Nell. You were on your feet a lot more than usual with the move. I've tried all kinds of natural diuretics like dandelion, but they don't work well for me. Extra rest is what you need!

Just wanted to let you know!

Bev: Is it 4 oz. cooked or uncooked, do you think? I've been using 1/2 cup Barilla whole wheat pasta for Step 2, which is very good, but that fettuccini sounds wonderful.

Half of my favorite chocolate bar is an 11 - 20 also, but one row is exactly 5 carbs so I have a 15 carb or less dinner and then one row for a treat maybe once every two weeks or so. I think you might like that approach better than giving it up all together. It was especially nice to have the treat on Valentine's Day. Tom still has some squares of his Ghiardelli bag I put in his Christmas stocking. Some of them are wrapped in squares that are exactly 5 net carbs. He likes the espresso and I like the mint.

Actually, I looked back at her e-mail. 1/4 of the bag is a serving (2 oz. dry - 4 oz. cooked). It is still a good sized portion and tastes pretty good - very pasta like, if that makes sense.

Actually, I am usually better off with an all or nothing approach. I have a lot of problems with the control factor of something like this. I know that 1/2 of a Ritter Dark Choc. with hazelnuts is 20 carbs, but then I want the other 1/2. Sometimes I eat it, sometimes I wait 5 hours and eat it, but I will usually consume the entire bar in one day.

Hi Folks, just attempting to log in under my real name today...lol, my "alias" doesnt have all my "stuff" like pictures, etc...think I finally got my regular user name straightened out, although I still cant post from either name from home...sounds like the whole situation with my computer is going to take an entire day or more to get straight, so I am dreading it!!

LOL, the fact that so many of us LOVE MALT, must mean there is something in it that is totally not good for us! probably like something that puts our L and P into hyper-drive! I have yet to find anything on the legal list that is also on my personal favorites list, :rotfl:

Bev - I think I need to re-read the book again too...even on step 1 forever I feel like Im stalled...of course I havent been getting to the gym as regularly as I should with all the weird hours and terrible weather, so maybe thats it...it just ticks me off to no end that it is taking so long to lose...I am almost at the end of 6 months now, and was hoping for 50 pounds by now, but nope, still stuck at 30...GRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Robin: 6 months is 24 weeks so you have lost more than a pound a week! That's awesome! I'm stuck at 20, but after my funky feelings, today I think I look a little thinner again. Granted it's slow, but if we can make it be forever it's not bad at all! I'm excited for you!

I respect how you know yourself, Beverly. That's so important and valuable. I think for me the concept of never having something again is a bit difficult - more difficult for some things than others. I don't care if I never eat another donut, but I do like the taste of chocolate and those 15 tortilla chips I can have sometimes really does the trick. I like how Diane has worked it out where we can eventually have some of the 'hair of the dog' without it wacking out our L & P's. Maybe you can find some little pleasures you can enjoy that don't have too much of the devil in them. The pasta is a good example. Hopefully, the longer we do this, the stronger we will become. I know for sure I cannot hold the container of anything that's a trigger for me. I used to be awful about not knowing how many I ate of something. MM has helped me a lot with portion control. Also, not getting too hungry and losing all control has been a big benefit. I used to buy terrible things at the store if I was too hungry and eat them in the car. Who was that girl???:confused3
