Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

How 'bout broccoli cheese soup, Robin? It must be rather low carb, right? I'm still working on files and cleaning. I remodeled my office a few months ago and it gives me inspiration to keep it nice:)

I think I’ll try another 1 min muff and use 2 cups! Great idea and then He will think I have made a treat just for Him!! It’s not as if they are starving or anything! We do love them, though:love:

Til’ later……:grouphug:

I still have to try making those muffins. I bet I'll be kicking myself when I finally do that I didn't do it earlier.

Hi everyone. Thank you for the prayers.

Jocelyn, I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I will be saying a prayer for all of you tonight.

Didn't make it to the funeral home tonight. Alyssa (Mike's DD) ended up in the hospital. She is fine. Not getting into details right now. It isn't anything bad, but it irks me just a bit. Sort of a sore spot with me.

To everyone who is losing weight, congrats!! :cool1:

I am going to read for a bit then off to bed. My good MM week ended up having a bad ending. Had a really bad supper for lack of anything better in a vending machine at the hospital. I had to go there directly from work, so didn't have a chance to even grab anything to tide me over :( Tomorrow I will be putting some pecans and mozzy sticks in my purse to take with me. Not sure if she's getting out tomorrow or when. I would say Monday at the latest.

Just wondering if they saved that dog that was stuck in the LA river today? I say some of it at the hospital, but not the ending. I sure hope so.

Ok, have a great night everyone. Sweet dreams!!

Hey Kathy! I say congrats to everyone too! My "weight" seems to be staying the same lately, but I've noticed my clothes getting looser again.

I'm sorry that the vending machine didn't have better choices. Sometimes they will have peanuts as an option, but surprisingly most machines don't carry them. They really should. I hope things get better soon and you won't need to be at the hospital so much. You could pack some broccoli and ranch dressing too if you have a little container.

LOL Jocelyn - yep, Im working another marathon...supervisor just came by and said since it has slowed down drastically since 6pm, she is going to let me leave an hour early! WHOOHOO!! Doesnt sound that exciting actually, but I am SO tired, getting home at 9 instead of 10 will be huge for me!!

Hope you all are having a nice weekend...we are due for pouring rain all day tomorrow, (my day off) so I may just curl up on the couch with a book and do NOTHING all day! Wow, like that will really happen, but it sure does SOUND good! I am planning to indulge myself with a one minute muffin or two, and if an avocado presents itself, maybe a nice taco salad...yum

I need new soup ideas too...love a nice pot of soup on a rainy day! Bored with the same old same old...I will tell you what...I DO miss making a huge pot of potato cheese soup....I LOVE that stuff...inexpensive, easy and oh so good...:sad2: but no potatoes for Pony....

I agree with Lisa! Broccoli cheese soup sounds yummy!

I have a question for our legal eagles.
My nephew was arrested for having 15 lbs. of pot. (yes - 15 lbs.) My sister couldn't make it to my aunt's funeral because it happened the night before and my sister was a mess. He has constantly been in trouble for the last 10 yrs. He was under house arrest once for burglary. He's 25 years old and thinks he 'from the hood'. Meanwhile he grew up in a gorgeous house in Pleasant Valley and has been given everything he ever wanted. His sister meanwhile has her master's in speech pathology, is happily married and expecting her 2nd baby. Same household - 2 terribly different kids.
Here's my question - the night it happened my sister said bail was set at $50,000 and that she wasn't going to pay it. She hired an attorney and was crying that she was going to be paying for lawyers for the rest of her life. She said she wouldn't be able to go to court because she couldn't bear to see him in a jumpsuit in shackles. I haven't talked to her since then - only emails because she says she can't talk without sobbing.
Now she told my other sister that on Wed. in court he was released on his own recognizance and his court date is set for March. I think she used a bail bondsman and doesn't want to tell us. I sent her an email and said how does it go from 50K to 'we trust you, you can go home'. She said she doesn't know - maybe prayer. Is it possible for someone with a record to be let go own their own recognizance after being caught with that much pot?

Sorry to make it such a long story. But she has constantly covered for this kid and the worst part is he doesn't appreciate on bit of it.

Good morning everyone. Had a really long day at the hospital yesterday. At least I had a book to read. I am almost done with it, so I need to take another with me today. Her mom was kind enough to show up for about 3 hours yesterday. That's another whole story. I don't really care for her, as when the kids turned 18, she pretty much decided her job was done. But keep it civil for the kids. I would LOVE to say a few choice words to this woman.
Alyssa seems to be doing better. The got 2 bags of antibiotic iv's and as of last night at 10 she had 4 bags of saline. I am not saying she isn't sick, but she tends to play it to the hilt when she wants attention or if she wants to get out of doing something she doesn't want to do. I asked Mike what happened Friday, and it was pretty much what I thought. She had read the pamphlet that came with her antibiotic and within a couple hours, she was sick. Nausea, headache, stiff joints, just in a horrible way. She called the doctor, and told him about all the symptoms. Then she began to cry in the doctor's office. He then proceeded to put her in the hospital. He is thinking she may be septic. Which if I understand right, if she becomes sick (and I know she is) she gets herself all worked up and it keeps escalating. By the time she was admitted, she was laughing, joking and not feeling too bad. The doctor said her white blood cell count had gone way up and then went back to normal, then went up again. Well, my thinking is, SHE HAS A BLADDER INFECTION, DUH!! As soon as they got her on antibiotic, it was doing it's job and they went down. She was on antibiotic for 2 days before this all started.
Sorry for the ramble. Just not the best area for me and I get upset.

Nell, I'm no lawyer, but I don't think they would revoke the bail amount. Maybe he's going to cooperate with them and "get" the main guy?

Got to go, Alyssa just called and wants her dad. So, off to the hospital we go. I imagine she'll get home sometime tomorrow and I can go to work and rest.
I'll catch up later.
:grouphug:

Good Morning Everyone, well, oops looks like its afternoon already! LOL, Pony actually got out that hour early last night, grocery shopped on the way home, and SLEPT IN this morning, BIG TIME!! OMG, woke up in time to watch my church services, and here I am...wow, feel pretty darn good too!

Kathy - sorry you are embroiled in the drama, but luckily it sounds like she is at least under control physically, so thats a blessing. I know if I read all the drug interactions, etc in those pamphlets I can get a little crazy too...I know they need to let us know about possible reactions and all, but EVERY drug has those, and VERY few people actually have any of them happen. Seems like there should be a better way to let us know to be watchful without scaring us to death!

Diane - as one of the "legal eagles"...NOT, LOL, my opinion is no way they would let him go without bail for 15 pounds of pot...even with NO record at all! That puts him WAY into the category of a DEALER, not just a few joints which would categorize him as a user...if a judge set bail, he would be the only one who could change that...maybe they sent him home with a tracking anklet? They will sometimes do that if someone pleads that they will be responsible for him and making sure he shows up for his court date...but it doesnt happen very often. Praying for strength for your sister as she goes through this trying time again...hard to believe these kids come from the same gene pool, but we used to see it all the time...he is 25 and at some point your sister will need to let him know he is on his own and let him take his own hard knocks without her financial support...sometimes they scare themselves straight when they know mommy wont pay to get them out of it again.

Lisa and Nell - broccoli cheese soup sounds yummy, but I had bought a cauliflower, so I think it will be cauliflower cheese soup instead! Maybe it will even taste a bit like my longed for potato soup...hmmmm

Jocelyn -- any recipes or ideas about cauliflower cheese soup? Im thinking, cook the caulflower in chicken broth then mash it up some and stir in the cheese...cant be too hard can it??

off to feed ponies...they are ticked off I slept so long, but I refuse to look out the window at them and feel guilty! haha, I think they could live for a week on their winter fat!

Kathy: My Mom is so allergic to antibiotics that they have to have the anti-serum ready just in case before they give it to her. She could die. Once, her brain swelled from it. If a person is allergic, it will get worse subsequent times. Hopefully, the doctors have it under control, but they aren't too eager to put people in the hospital and spend money on it if it's not warranted, I would think.

Diane: I'm praying for your poor sister. She must be heartbroken. I guess anything can happen in the legal system. Are you planning on going to court? I'm so sorry.

Carol, thank's for the link. It's really important for all of us to stand up for what we believe in. There is no one that can live our life better for us than ourselves. My stance I believe is that of course God exists. But not in the little boxes we put him in. I should actually have fun with it. I have no idea what the professors stance is on it.

Pony, I'm also thinking about the potato soup made with cauliflower pieces instead. I bet you could come up with a good recipe, and there is one in our book too I think.

Why don't you make it with cauliflower or broccoli instead of potatoes???

I had to laugh as I read the rest of the posts. Everyone was ahead of me on ideas. I would Google low carb cauliflower soup and you will probably come up with lots of ideas. A little cream cheese and green onion will give it some extra flavor, too.

Diane - I think some Tough Love needs to be practiced or the 25 year old will NEVER grow up and become responsible for his actions. There are support groups for this - again Google will probably help here, too.

Kathy - hope your day is better:hug:

For everyone else:grouphug:

Brilliant minds think alike!;) Makes me hungry! I've been craving avacado lately, as I am highly suggestable! Can you all suggest that I clean my closets, or something that burns calories??:rotfl:

OK, so the cauliflower just isnt the same as potato in soup....oh well, I will eat it anyway! LOL, I see nobody is going to tell me there is a low carb potato soup!

We can have the pea pods though, right? Just stir fried a bunch with a bit of oil and butter and a teeny bit of soy sauce and lots of garlic...added some zucchini and onions...having that for dinner with my turkey breast out of the crockpot...

Just finished my second BIG mug of green tea, and I have to say this day of doing absolutely NOTHING has felt heavenly! I didnt even do laundry! LOL, I can do it on Tuesday my next day off, so I figure since I have something to wear to work tomorrow, why bother doing laundry !

Lisa - OK, heres a suggestion for you...I have about 60 bales of hay I have to move from one end of my barn to the other, I have about 15 wood pallets I need to clean old yukky hay off and stack for a couple months til the next hay harvest starts in May, I have 4 of the muddiest, filthiest ponies around who need baths and grooming, if I dont clean out my big truck things are going to start growing in there, and the tractor needs an oil change....hmmmm does that make you feel like cleaning out your closets instead? :lmao: :scared1: I need Ken to come home soon so I can put him to work around here! haha, better not tell him that or he will decide to stay in China!

BTW, no avocados at my grocery store...drat

Jocelyn, Im thinking I should do the cauliflower like we do for mock mashed, blend it well and THEN add more chicken broth and the cheese...mine came out lumpy and kind of yuk...

Robin: I was thinking of pureeing the soup. You can make any veg soup creamy that way, even with no cream. It's probably not too late to throw the leftovers in the blender. Add some veg broth or chicken broth if it's too thick.

Your list of chores is daunting, lol! Ken will probably like to get out and do some things after his stressful work stint in China. Does he like horses?

It's still raining and we've watched a cute Irish film lazing about in front of the fire. I'm making a quick dinner of fish again. Tom's mouth is sore so he needs soft food for a while.

I think I've got another good offer coming in. Ha, ha on a house, not a husband. I'll keep the semi-worn out one!

60 Bales of Hay? I'm sticking with Farmville

Hi everyone. I hope all is well with you all.
Spent the day at the hospital again. We are hoping she gets out today. She is feeling much, much better. They are still running tests and such. There are a few tests they did Friday that take 72 hours for the results, so that will be today. We did find that her plasma count is elevated, but nothing serious and her white cell count keeps going up and down.
I hope I didn't sound heartless. I honestly know she is ill, but she also tends to take it to the extreme. She was just in the hospital a couple months ago. Her fingers were hurting and she couldn't move them. They put her in for 2 days and found that she was dehydrated. She does drink water, but not much. So make sure you all drink your water!
Have a huge migraine for the last couple days, and I think it could be from not eating right. I am so completely off plan it's crazy. When I get back on (today or tomorrow) I believe I will do some juicing of the veges. It will help detox me.
Off to get ready for work. I'd just as soon go back to bed, but oh well. Feeling a bit down because I'm so tired. I'll come home and hopefully nap. I did manage to clean my office yesterday late afternoon.
Lisa, sorry to hear about your mom being allergic to antibiotics. That would be scary. I know Mike is allergic to pennicillian. We have to be very careful. But the doctor said this wasn't any type of allergic reaction or anything like that. The puzzle continues...

Well, she just called and she's spending another day in there. Not sure when she'll get discharged. The doctor wants her to talk to a psychologist/ psychiatrist. They aren't in today. Ok off to the hospital, book in my hand :)

Have a great day everyone. I'll try to catch up later.

Later everyone :grouphug:

Monday morning back at work...ugh...having a hard time getting myself psyched for it today! LOL, been a long, rough month for insurance sales...people are paying Christmas credit card bills instead I think!

Too funny you guys, Farmville hay definitely would be easier! Wonder what the ponies would think if I told them to log on and get some "virtual hay" for their breakfast!

Kathy - hope she is home from the hospital soon so you can get your eating back ontrack! Its so hard to stay on plan when you are gone from home all day...almost everything I eat has to "travel" since I am gone from home for 12-14 hours a day...limits the choices somewhat unless you cook ahead, which I usually do. Tried the one minute muffin yesterday with golden flax meal and a few bits of cream cheese...not bad, but definitely not the taste I was hoping for...should I try adding some Davinci instead of the splenda, or does that make it yuk?

Lisa - hope your incoming offer turns out well...Ken DOES like horses and loves Harley too, thank goodness...he has yet to actually experience a summers worth of haying, gardening, etc yet though! guess that will be the real test of the Man!

Robin: Try some more flavorings in the muffins. I can't speak to the flax as I used almond flour and it might be better. I love lemon poppyseed, so that's what I put in mine and it was great. I think cinnamon would be a wonderful addition along with any number of extracts. Cocoa too maybe.
