Living in Florida, my DD5 usually just runs around in sandals. But now that she's starting school, I wanted her in a very comfortable pair of sneakers so she'd be comfy running around all day. She needed Velcro styled sneakers since she hasn't learned to tie sneakers by herself yet, and of course quality and comfort (and in a style she likes) were also big issues.

Sounds easy, right? Wrong! I checked several online stores and a couple department stores, and they only had a minimal selection of Velcro shoes (Skechers were out of the question due to my bad experiences with that brand even though they had many like that to choose from) and the ones I did find were much more expensive than your typical regular lace-up pair of sneakers. The other problem I ran into was finding them in stock in her size. So much for only spending $25-$35 on new shoes. :confused3

Then I spotted the Geox "Snake" velcro sneakers. I'd never even heard of this brand before (am I alone?) The claim to fame on the pair I was looking at were that they were very breathable and keeps your feet cool & dry with some sort of innovative sole (which is great especially in this Florida heat!) The reviews for them on Zappos were stellar. They were also pretty cute and unique looking. But what a price gouge! $55-$62+ for a pair of these Geox velcro sneakers!! Maybe I'm cheap, but that's a lot of money for childrens shoes.

I managed to find a 20% off code for Shoes.com and decided to just go ahead and buy them (it always softens the blow when I think I'm getting a bargain! lol.) They came out to be $45 shipped. I was a little hesitant, though, in the way they size their shoes (she's going into a 12.5 and the shoes run by 12.5/1 = size 13) so I hope they fit alright.

Does anyone here have experience with these shoes? Are they worth the price? I probably won't have them until next week but I hope they are worth every penny.

I wear Geox mules and loafers and have done so around the world. Usually wear a pair at least once a day; they are my most common casual shoe. I've worn them to DL in CA, WDW, and DL in Paris. They are VERY common in Europe.

I would highly recommend them for quality and style, and they are very cool in hot climates as well. I just finally retired a pair that I wore in India for a month; another pair of loafers still looks great after a summer in India, Germany and France.

As to 'price gouge', I disagree. My Geox last longer than any American shoe I have ever bought such as Aerosoles. I would suggest that they last twice as long, and get far more wear.

As to fit - I wear a 42 and normally in American shoes a size 11. Don't know if that helps you.

I personally never heard of the brand, but I don't think that's too much to spend on children's shoes, especially if they get good use of them. I always used to buy my DDs Stride Rite shoes and they averaged 40-50.00 a pair. Now that there older (20 and 13) they wear the cheapest flip flops in the summer, but my oldest spends more on fall and winter shoes/boots and I usually buy my 13 yr old more expensive shoes as well for school. Iam sure you will be very happy with your purchase.:thumbsup2

I just did a mental count - I currently own 7 pairs of Geox, not counting the pair I just retired.

Don't know if that is enough of an endorsement for you! ;) But then again, I am from Europe, and styles do vary greatly in America to Europe. But Geox are very common in America now; Nordstrom sells them as do other stores.

YES, they are worth every penny!!!

I have purchased them upon several occasions for DS6 at Marshall's for 29.99. I also went back to Marshalls later and saw then on clearance so bought 2 more pairs in the next sizes they were a whopping 6.99 per pair :lmao: !!!
They also sell them at Nordstrom’s too!

He has been wearing the same pair since February (everyday to school and 3x per wk in the summer to camp) and they still look nice -- I think I have stunted his growth somehow as he has NEVER worn a pair of shoes for more than 3 months -- he is at the age that he outgrows them before he wears them out!

We were in NYC in May and there is a GEOX (pronounced Jock) store in Manhattan so I just HAD to go in. I could not find anything that would work for me (size 10 ladies) so I bought DS6 a pair of sandals for OUCH.... 65.00. (DH did not know how much they cost until the other day when DS wanted to wear them when it was raining when I said NOT in those 65.00 sandals!):scared1: BUSTED!!!

But with the track record of the closed toe shoes I know these will last unless he grows out of them first!!!

My DS (7) kept telling me about these sneakers, I had no clue of what he was talking about. When we went to the mall he we saw the store and we got a pair of sneakers for $60. They did last a long time, he wears sneakers everyday to school. I also would by sneakers at stride rite for $40 - $50 they just seem to last longer and since he really only has one pair at a time, it is worth it.

Yes at that age she will outgrow any shoe before wearing them out if she's anything like my DD. I always bought Stride Rite too and my pediatrist said at a young age any good tennis shoe is fine. As a matter of fact the pediatrician said to let her go barefoot (inside) while learning to walk.

My son 6, only wears Geox sneakers and sandals. We buy them at Nordstroms. You can get them on sale there 3x a year. Twice at the half yearly sale and just last month at the anniversary sale. I pay 30-45 dollars on sale.
My DS has Perthes disease, which affects his hip, so I wanted a great supporting sneaker and sandal. This shoe molds to their foot and allows it to breathe. We also live in Fl. I highly recomend this shoe!

mixed bag here. my DS6 got Geox and wore a hole on the outside toe area of his left foot within a month and he only wore them 2 days a week for 4 hours. he is hard on shoes, but he has never put a hole that quickly.i thought is was a fluke, and took them to the store with my receipt and they said too bad. other than the hole, the shoes are great. he still wears them, and loves them but wanted to go back to stride rite because shoes with holes are not cool (i told him they had to last until january.) with the stride rite, they have replaced them if they wore out in less than 3 months. someone said sears will replace shoes/clothes if they wear out before they are outgrown. it was on one of the back to school boards here. sorry i cannot remember where. not sure if sears carries any high end brands of shoes.

DS thought they were really comfy and helped his sweaty/stinky feet! I got a good price on them through Zappos, but I did not think they held up that well. The edges of the leather got all stringy and frayed.

It's an Italian brand, one of the best-known around Europe.
And yes, they are worth every penny.
