I'm buying these for my sons for Christmas. They already have a couple sets, but we never got around to actually putting them together. For those that have these, are there any must-have pieces? It looks sort of complicated, and I'm thinking that I might have to buy some tracks to make it all fit together. Do your boys love them? Any advice? Thanks!

Its a kewl set-

and it can be as diverse or as narrow a collection (ie just rescue, sea etc) as ya want- As long as you have the basic set (now called Track Town) as it has the master controller- Anything goes :)

(Personally I like the Rescue set but the Mountain is pretty kewl)

DS got a set for his 2nd birthday from his grandpa. Since then we bought another remote control train (So DH could have one! ;) ) and the fire station. For Christmas grandpa is giving him the airplane set and the helicopter since DS loves those two things. He's still a bit young to build tracks...he's just started putting them together but doesn't understand that he has to connect them for the train to run right. He just builds one long track. lol! Definitely make sure you have enough remote control trains for each person that will be playing with it. Extra track is nice, too, since the sets don't come with too much. DH wants to start trying to buy the stuff to raise the track up. I have to keep reminding DH that the set is for DS and NOT him! ;)

Extra track pieces are definately great. Otherwise like the other poster said, more remote trains. We've had ours for a couple of years now and have a huge tub of stuff. We don't have any of the new elevation tracks yet though.

It is actually pretty easy for the 3 and up crowd to handle. The more r/c trains the better. The bridges are pretty neat too. My son doesn't r eally bother with the extras except for the tower. Best of all, they are extremely durable!

DS is 4 and we have TONS of Geos. I think having an extra track pack is great. If you are only going to get one I'd get the straights pack that has the shorter tracks. They are really handy if you have an odd sized piece like the roundhouse.

We got DS the Geotrax set for Christmas last year when he was 2 1/2. He loves it and it has been a favorite all year long. DH also loves it and with birthdays, etc.. DS has gotten several other pieces since then - even some of the elevation set. He quickly learned to put the track together himself. He sometimes still needs help gettting it all to connect together so the trains can make a big loop but he has steadily gotten better. DS like to push the trains on the track as much or more than using the r/c.

DS really has a thing for bridges laterly so he is getting the drawbridge, the suspension bridge, the Oceanside Flier train, some extra track and the clock tower this Christmas. The pieces are durable and they make great gift ideas to give to family/friends who are looking to spend $10-15 dollers. He gets so much use out of them.
