Alright, we haven't discussed this in a while so I'm wondering if there are any new recommendations?

We're heading down in a few weeks and we like to stop over in Ga. and camp for the night. It allows us to pull out around 8:00 am the next morning and arrive at the Fort around noon fresh and ready to go.

Does anyone have any new recommendations for full hook-up campsites along I-95 in Ga.? We stayed at Lake McIntosh back in '06. It's right beside Lake Harmony. Both seemed pretty good but I'm always open to new, better places. That's what camping's all about.

I remember someone liking a state park near the Fla. border but can't quite recall. KOAs are fine too if they're nice campgrounds. Thanks.:thumbsup2

There is always Crooked River State Park. Located about 8 minutes east off 95 at Exit #3 in Georgia. Located about 2 miles from the entrance of Kings Bay Sub base. Sites are generally quite large, open, and situated among cut grass and tall pine trees. Sites 11, 12 , 14, and 15 have a fantastic view of the river. Sites 13, and 16 are excellent also. You cannot reserve a particular site, only make a reservation. When you get there you drive through and pick the empty site you want, post your reservation on the site post and your good to go. Should be about right at a 4 hour drive to Orlando. Now for just getting off the interstate and stopping and sleeping and then jumping back on in the morning there is Country Oaks as mentioned. Its basically just a RV stopover where Crooked River is a very quiet State Park. Good Luck.

There is a KOA at Richmond Hill (Highway 17 exit) about 1/2 mile from the exit.

Ft McAllistar State Park is off of I-95 at Ga 144 in Richmond Hill. It's not too far from the interstate and is a very nice area to camp.

Then there is Bellaire Woods Campground on 204 at Savannah (I have never stayed there, but, it's been there for 30+ years for what that is worth).

Further away is Skidaway Island State Park. Its a good way away from the interstate, but, it's a nice camp area. You have to go through Savannah to get there.

Let me know if you need more info on these sites.

(I would like to state, in a typically off-topic fashion , that the seat-belt-reminder signs in Georgia look like a fat Canadian Mountie.
thank you, you may now return to your originally scheduled thread)
