So I love cupcakes and I love the show DC Cupcakes. Every time I watch I think how much I would love to try their cupcakes. Unfortunately we live 7 hours away! Well, I went on their website yesterday and they ship! But..... yes, there's always a but! The cost of a dozen cupcakes is $29 and the shipping is $26! My question is, has anyone had these cupcakes? Are they worth it? I'm a huge cupcake/cake fan... :goodvibes :lovestruc

Honestly that's not too bad in the region of gourmet cupcakes. I have seen some for $4 a pop!:scared1: And that was without factoring in shipping. Sounds like there's are more in the neighborhood of $2, which if you think about if you order a dessert when you go out and it ranges $4-$5, sometimes more is actually a pretty decent price for what you are getting. The shipping though sounds a wee bit high. I guess though you are paying for packaging and safe handling since it could get crushed pretty easily.

I have had Sprinkles, but I haven't had the opportunity yet to try Georgetown. Stupid diet. :headache: But, I hope to sometime.

D.C. has quite a few cupcake places around and my personal opinion is that Georgetown cupcake is not one of the better places. DH and I got a box of 6 and only one (red velvet) was really good, three were inedible as the frosting was way too sweet DH and I each had a bite and threw the remaining out. The other two were fine but not as good as others around here. They also have the smallest cupcakes around but still charge the same price as the places that do larger cupcakes. Out of the 5-6 cupcake places I have tried in the area I personally put Georgetown cupcake at the very bottom of the list but other people would certainly disagree.

They said that they package them in sealed insulation with gel ice and they are shipped overnight. So I guess the price for that isn't so bad

Thank you for your honest opinion!!! :goodvibes

We'll be in DC over Easter weekend and I'm going to order a 1/2 dozen for pickup. I've read mixed reviews about them but DD is excited to go there because of the show. I'll also be DH's birthday and mine that weekend so it'll be a fun way to celebrate.

I'll let you know how they are when we get back.

I got a recipe for their cupcakes from, I believe, the Washington Post food section. We've made them and they were very good. Chocolate cupcake with chocolate ganache icing. You don't need the exact ingredients they state but do buy good quality chocolate.

I live 30 minutes or so away from Georgetown and I wouldn't bother going just for cupcakes. There are so many bakeries, plus they are so easy to make.

Yes, we've had Georgetown Cupcakes, I personally would not pay what you would to have them shipped. Just my personal opinion.
Sorry :sad2:

Yum! Yes, they are worth it. I like them because there's plenty of icing. I like the icing more than the cupcake.

Don't feel too bad about the shipping. I only live 20 minutes away & I had them shipped to me because I didn't want to drive down there & wait in line.:thumbsup2

I've had them and personally didn't think they were very good.

I've had lots of cupcakes that were a lot better and cheaper.

Seeing that Im headed to DC next week and the everything might be shut down, maybe Ill do a cupcake run and review all Washington cupcake stores and compare LOL! I'll have nothing else to do :rotfl2:

Where are they located in DC? We are headed there in July and may have to try one.

I've had them and they are okay. Nothing to write home about. The novelty of it all is probably more exciting than the cupcake itself. I've had a few types that were kind of bad (vanilla with bubblegum frosting), one that was bland (salted caramel), and a chocolate that was pretty good.

I personally prefer the ones that my local grocery store, Wegman's sells in a 4 pack in their bakery.

Well, to get to Georgetown you'll need to take a taxi or drive. Metro doesn't go to Georgetown and the closest metro stop is a very long walk. There is only a circulator bus, but I don't know what that schedule is. Parking is a pain so good luck.

My cousin, who has tried them all, swears by Hello Cupcake in Dupont Circle. She says they are better than Georgetown Cupcakes. But they get no publicity. You CAN get to Hello Cupcake via Metro.

rwdavis2 can you give me the receipy? I keep trying different one's to try and find out what works with my flour.

It's a very crazy place because of the show....think WDW size lines on weekends.

That being said, They're pretty good cupcakes.

But I've never been to the store. Each time I've had them, they were delivered. Here's how that works:
Delivery Rules and Pricing
Georgetown Cupcake delivers to the Washington DC metro area inside the I-495 beltway. The delivery fee is $10, and the minimum order for delivery is one dozen cupcakes. We request that all delivery orders be placed by 7pm the day prior to delivery. For large orders, additional advance notice is appreciated. Please select from the menu of flavors available on the day of your requested delivery. For deliveries outside our local delivery area, please contact us at (202) 333-8448 or georgetown@georgetowncupcake.com to speak with our catering manager. Additional charges may apply.
Maybe you could have them delivered to your hotel, instead of waiting in line?

You can also call ahead 24 hours and pre-order them. Then when you go to pick them up, you don't have to wait in line. You can just walk right in and pick up the preorders.

Google coupons! You can get them shipped for free! I had a vanilla one and it was delicious.
