Genie+ won't allow re-rides?

I've stayed at PBH twice this year. I was able to book great AP rates BUT I checked a close in weekend. October 23-25 The 3 original hotels cost $442/night $508 and $608. That's not about the same as a Disney moderate.

An average person reading your claim might not realize you're not making an apples to apples comparison. You're assuming a guest is going book when deeply discounted rates are available for their dates. An average person booking may not even consider the advantages of an AP. Might not realize parts of the year longer stays result in dramatically lower rates. Drop a day from a hotel reservation and the entire reservation has to be repriced at current rates. You can't just drop a night. If AP rates aren't available for the dates you want to keep you'll lose your AP discount. I don't think that's well known
So you can get free Unlimited Express Pass with a room for $442/night.

For those same dates, Caribbean Beach is $324/night standard room. Grand Floridian is $786/night.

Draw your own conclusions.

And AKL is 468 and WL is 494, but go ahead and pick the most expensive deluxe...

My conclusion. RPH is 118 more expensive. CBR is about 28% less expensive. RPH isn't about the same price as a Disney moderate.

As per PP AKL isn't that much more expensive then RPH.

Book whatever hotel gives you the experience you prefer.

Some might prefer Universal vacation with included express passes Some might like the unique experience of AKL
Others might prefer Disney moderate

This is not what the thread is supposed to be about. However you guys are forgetting other options at uo, like Amex platinum extra benefits such as 200 cash back free 100 dollar dining credit late checkout stacked with free unlimited and other discounts stacked on those and it becomes comically cheaper compared to Disney. Of course, outside of Harry Potter they really have like 1 good ride and 2 decent rides and then just nothing that even compares. But seriously guys, let’s quit talking about uo hotels on a genie plus thread…some of us need to get any details about genie plus that we can.

The amex platinum card has a large annual fee. Posters in the Universal Hotels forum say you can't book AP and other discounts and get platinum benefits.

You only get platinum benefits when you book through AMEX

good to know, but yes you would have to book via the Amex website. Still, was surprised to read so much about uo hotels in the genienreride thread ;)

For some reason, people have a really tough time with this advice. :confused3
People want a business, in this case Disney with Genie, to offer a service exactly the way they want. Have trouble understanding terms aren't negotiable. They mean what it says not what they want it to say

I’m surprised so many people like to ride the same ride twice in one day. Even when the rides are walk-ons, or when I had the Universal Express pass I never even considered it. I’m wondering what percentage of Disney guests would find this a problem with the Genie+.

If a large percentage of FP+ riders were riding popular rides a second time in the afternoons I could see how this would free up additional Genie+ options later in the day, which would make Genie+ more valuable for those that like riding everything once.

We would always re-ride rides. This is a key difference from MP that I really, really don’t like and I hope they change it later on. We have young kids who aren’t tall enough to go on all the rides. So they’re already limited to a subset of the available rides. Of the rides they could go on, they’d love to go multiple times. With MP, we’d go on TSMM multiple times. My oldest loved Soarin’ and wanted to go multiple times. GOTG during Halloween is a different ride later in the day, so absolutely worth a re-ride. RSR is also a very different experience (and preferable) at night so if we could get it, that one was worth doing again too.

A couple of things I’m not clear on… MP was also able to be used to get FP for shows that didn’t count against your other FPs. It doesn’t seem like Genie+ has anything for shows yet, but I’m wondering if this will be incorporated as shows return. Also, with MP you could book overlapping time slots. Not sure if this is possible with Genie+.

G+ has FFiF, FOTLK, Frozen Singalong, B&B Singalong, and Indiana Jones Stunt Show at WDW. So they are definitely using G+ for shows, maybe just not at DLR yet.

The way that FP+ worked, you could not book overlapping time slots but you could tap in at the beginning of your return window and grab a FP+ immediately even if that FP+ return would have overlapped with the return time for the ride you are on. And if you booked a FP+ for a show or reserved fireworks/parade viewing area, it counted toward your FP+ limit until it was redeemed.

I should clarify, by shows I meant to say the ones like Fantasmic and World of Color. Those were separate allotments and didn’t count against your other FPs. The shows at WDW that are included with Genie+ are a bit different since they happen throughout the day rather than a single evening show. I wonder what WDW will do when they bring back something like Fantasmic. Although in the past when you used a FP for Fantasmic, it also counted against your FP limit, so I guess if that’s the case with Genie+, that’s another difference with MP that isn’t ideal.

With MP, you could book a FP for TSMM at 7-8pm and another for GOTG at 7:30-8:30pm due to stacking after the waiting period, even if you hadn’t tapped into the rides yet. Not sure if that’ll be feasible with Genie+.

I'm guessing stacking is probably not in the cards. They may have modeled part of it from MP but WDW never allowed stacking not sure they would start now. But also keep in mind at WDW you could pick your time but with MP it was just next available. The two parks functioned differently and I thought that was because they had different unique characteristics to them, 4 parks vs 2 parks, parks spread out vs not, heavily tourist vs not, etc. I'm not sure how Genie+ will end up working out with previous expectations set up and adding LL into it too with a system that was used differently depending on where you were at

Fantasmic! at WDW was a FP+ option and yes, it counted against your FP+ limit.

But FP+ never permitted stacking because you could see what times were available for all attractions and if you chose one that was 2+ hours in the future instead of one that was sooner, that was your choice.

Now legacy, paper FP was a different story. It allowed stacking to a certain degree because there was no app to show you current return times, only the tips board in each park. You basically went off of what was posted at the attraction and if it was far into the future your paper ticket actually told you when you could pull another FP for a different attraction.
