Generally healthy GOOD meals?

With all due respect to your orthodoxy about Asian cookery and culture.......you are right AND you are wrong.
Do a little googling yourself as to the origins of Indian butter chicken (hint: the current iteration was created mid 20th century) and that of Japanese butter/butter grilled chicky. They differ vastly in seasoning but both are yummy.
That is because butter makes everything better :D

I see that butter chicken was created by Indian chefs in India, at an Indian restaurant. :confused3 Not sure what point you're trying to make here.

I was unable to find any dish called "Japanese butter grilled chicky," nor have I ever heard of such.

I mean, there isn't even a word for butter in the Japanese language. You can try to convince yourself that it's an integral part of Japanese cooking if you like, but that's just not true. :)

Truth is surely in the eye of the beholder so we will agree to disagree as you continue to explore modern day Japanese cuisine where you will certainly find the translation/word in use for butter. :).

My friend is vegan and I have to be honest, literally every dish he ordered from the places we went (most notably Jiko and California Grill) looked AMAZING. I am a happy meat eater myself, but it looked very healthy.

So perhaps ordering from the vegetarian menu would be healthy and tasty for her! :)
 
Hmmm, so this thread was going to be about ideas for healthy meals at restaurants, but somehow it turned into a debate about Japanese cuisine....
Don't worry and sorry for the side tracking; I'm done on that level.

There are soooo many delicious healthful food choices at WDW...way more than I initially thought there might be. I "self medicate" when it comes to food but would follow a doctor's recommendations if needed after an operation.

it's a part of modern, not traditional, Japanese cooking. As is the modern hibachi (actually teppanyaki) restaurant, which also tends to use a lot of butter to flavor the food (mine always adds it at the end to finish it off, cooks in oil and adds butter right at the end). Like most cuisines, in modern times there is a lot of fusion of ingredients that may not have been traditional before we became a more global economy and cultures were exposed to other cultures. Indian butter chicken is probably about as new as modern Teppanyaki restaurants with a flat top grill and entertainment as part of the meal... both were "invented" post WWII.

And the point is, there is a dish that has "butter" and "chicken" IN the name IN one of the Disney Japanese restaurants. So it's a "thing" even if you don't think it should be based on a more purist point of view.

Also, in my experience as well, hibachi is loaded with butter. That's what makes the sauce taste so good. The food is not cooked in butter... it is cooked in an oil with a higher smoke point, but then butter is added at the end with garlic and soy and whatever else they put in it to make the sauce. Disney may be different but I'd be surprised if they were.. I've been to many hibachi restaurants and they all used butter.

I had a gallbladder attack once but I passed a stone and that was it, luckily don't have any others. But I learned the hard way to not mainline guacamole anymore. oof.

Yes, it's literally "butter" written in phonetic characters, because it is a loan word from English. I speak Japanese. My father is Japanese. I think you are a bit outside your pool of knowledge here so I will forgive you trying to teach me my own language. LOL
 
Let's all agree to disagree. My point about butter being present in American hibachi food is valid. Butter not being in Japanese cuisine is also valid. Everyone's bodies are different. If you wish to attack people for voicing their opinions on Americanized Japanese cuisine, this is not the thread. Thank you :rolleyes:
 
Not sure how helpful this is but if you're in EPCOT, my favorite place off the top of my head for healthy-ish (but still delicious) quick lunch is Sunshine Seasons Food Court in the Land Pavillion. Definitely nothing Italian there but some yummy and healthy-ish sandwiches, rotisserie chicken, Mongolian beef with veggies, etc.

My absolute fave is the Turkey and Monterey Jack on Ciabatta. :earsboy:

Agree, the Rotisserie chicken with rice was great, and you can split easily
 
Satuli Canteen was a HUGE surprise for us in January. The food was SO good & healthy in comparison to normal theme park offerings.
I actually still think about that meal even now!

So do I! :cloud9: I loved it a lot and was shocked at how good it was. I too think about that meal often. :lmao: I love food, what can I say?
 
Flying fish! They happily substituted extra vegetables for potatoes and offered to serve them plain. Best meal I had all vacation. And it would have been extra healthy if I did not also enjoy the bread, butter, and under the sea desert :)

I was able to maintain my will power as far as the bread was concerned but oh my those desserts were "fantabolous".
We left that restaurant sated but not stuffed to the gills..unlike the fish:D.

I've never eaten at Satuli but will give it a try our next go round after hearing so many sing it's praise.

The bread was so worth it! Really looking forward to going back. It is my new favorite
