Does anyone here have the real recipe for this - the one used in the Chinese restaurants?

My son-in-law absolutely LOVES this stuff and I'd like to try to make it for him next week sometime.. I've found several recipes on the net, but they all seem to vary in one way or another..

Anyone here make it from scratch?

Got SSB's mouth watering just thinkin' about! :)

I have this one....but the recipe varies between restaurants also.

Categories : Chicken/Turkey Foreign

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
Sauce
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup water
1 1/2 teaspoons minced fresh garlic
1 1/2 teaspoons minced fresh ginger
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup sherry
15 ounces chicken broth
Meat
3 pounds boneless, skinless chicken -- cut in chunks
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 egg -- beaten
1 cup cornstarch
2 cups green onions -- sliced
8 small dried hot peppers -- seeds removed

Make sauce and refrigerate until needed.
Put everything into a quart jar with a lid and shake it up, then put it in the refrigerator. Just shake when ready to use.
Mix chicken, soy sauce, and hot peppers. Stir in egg. Add cornstarch, and mix until chicken pieces are coated.
Deep fry 7 or 8 chicken pieces at a time in a 350 degree oil until chicken pieces are crispy.
Drain on paper towels. Repeat until all chicken chunks are fried.
Place a small amount of oil in wok, and heat to 400 degrees.
Add onions, peppers, and stir fry about 30 seconds.
Stir sauce mixture, and then add to wok.
Cook until thick. If it gets too thick, add water to right consistency.
Add chicken to sauce in wok, and cook until all is hot and bubbly.
Serve with fried or steamed rice.

Oops! I don't have a wok.. Could I use something else?

You could use a regular pan, but just watch the temperature so that nothing burns.

Now I'm hungry...I love General Tso Chicken. I haven't had it in so long. It's one of those no-no's since my surgery and I sure do miss it. Maybe it would be worth the discomfort. I'll have to think about it.

That sounds sooooo gooooodd!!! My DH will not like you posting this because you have just revved up a good 'ole pregnancy craving that he might now have to go out to fulfill. :)

This sounds great and seems to be about 1000 calories per serving.

Thanks for the recipe. I kept it for one of my "off" days. :wizard:

For my birthday we had two quarts of Vegtable LoMein and one of Generas Tso's chicken, most was left over, and I ate the rest of it in 2 days! Now I can't even think the word chinese! :crazy2:

This is Twinkles6892, my mom's name is still on
