We're going on our very first family vacation in May. We have a 7 night cruise and then 6 nights in Disney. I'm trying to do up a budget but since we have never traveled outside our province using our own car, we're not sure who or how much we should be tipping. We have a car service picking us up from the cruise, housekeeping, servers at ts meals but who are we missing? And besides the average of 18% or so for a meal server what is the average to tip the others?

Suggestions only :)
Car service: 20% of the total price. Some people tip the whole amount at the beginning, some tip half each way.
Housekeeping: $0 (not specifically a tipped position at WDW) to $1-$2 per person per night, left each day instead of one lump sum at the end.
Servers: 15%-20%+ is typical; if there are six or more people in your party an 18% service charge (tip) is automatically added to your check.
Cruise: cruise line will advise you who to tip and how much. Aside from what they say, tip bartenders - typically 20%, but check first to see if a gratuity was already added.
Other: anybody who handles your luggage - $1-$2 per piece, but not less than $2.

If you are going on a DCL cruise, most of the tipping will be automatic.
  • Your stateroom account will be charged $12/night/passenger which covers your stateroom host, head server, server and assistant server. You can call to pre-pay this if you'd like.
  • Alcoholic beverages will have a 15% auto-gratuity added to the slip you sign.
  • Spa services will have an 18% auto-gratuity added to the slip you sign.
  • You are welcome to add more to any of these listed above.
  • The only other onboard tip would be for room service. It is recommended to bring a bunch of $1s to use; $1 per item ordered is common but you can decide how much. It is not automatic and there may not be a slip to sign, so cash is recommended.
  • Not exactly "onboard" but if you plan port excursions it might be appropriate to tip (depending on the excursion and the service provided). Cash is recommended for this as well.
Enjoy your land and sea vacation!
