General Star Wars Discussion

Kathleen Kennedy is the best. This is all I ever wanted. There's also supposedly original restorations for Empire and Jedi coming to coincide with their 50ths. This should also come out as a physical release which is preferred as the era of streaming consolidation makes physical media even more important.

That is certainly an interesting take.

Happy for the release, but completely disagree on Kennedy as a good steward for SW.

I must be the only Star Wars fan who just doesn't care. I find the latest versions to be the best and just don't care to go back.

Well, you didn't grow up on them like those of us who watched them in the theaters did. I want to see Han shoot first and not have CGI slop Jabba on the screen. Now, we can both be happy thanks to Kathleen Kennedy.

I agree with Brian on this one, the most recent releases are the best. This is a money grab from Lucasfilm and nothing more.

Oh, I'm not that young! I most certainly did grow up on the originals. I still like the current editions best. I appreciated the SE, though there were some minor execution issues, but those have been fixed. I'm plenty happy with what we have, though honestly, I wouldn't mind even more revisions - for all of the movies.

I’m very excited! I do very much love the extra Biggs scene we get in Star Wars, but otherwise I like the original versions. And really the original ROTJ Lapti Nek and the original final yub nub scene! I enjoy the new versions too , but I’m very happy to have a chance to see the originals.

I like the SEs, with the exception of the removal of Vader's line "Bring my shuttle" in ESB and the extended sequence showing him landing on the Executor. It totally messes with the flow of that scene for no reason at all.

That said, I do think the original version should be restored and available (for viewing AND purchase) for historical purposes.

After Top Gun: Maverick turned out to be an absolute massive blockbuster hit, I will never understand why the Rogue Squadron movie wasn't immediately put into pre-production/production.

I mean, Maverick alreaady ripped off Star Wars. Do we really need a Star Wars movie that rips off a movie that ripped off Star Wars? 🤣

In all seriousness, it's best not to chase trends. That is also to say that a Rogue Squadron movie could be very good. I am not sure they had the right director on it, but in the right hands it would be fine. We don't really know much about Starfighter yet, so it could have elements like that.

There is so much they could do with that IP (sub-IP? haha). Adapt old storylines, create new ones, use old characters (Corran was mentioned in the Obi-Wan show!), create new ones. Movie or TV show, it doesn't matter. Time frame doesn't matter. Just give us pilots!

I forgot about Rogue Squadron. My Facebook memories today were all of those exciting announcements Disney made Dec 10, 2020. I'd shared the links and how much I was looking forward to Andor, Willow (SO disappointing,) and Ahsoka.....but there were a lot more Disney news, and Rogue Squadron was one, with Patty Jenkins directing....who knows...maybe we'll still get it. She hasn't done anything else director-wise since WW 1984. Maybe it would be a better series.
I ambivalent on Starfighter. not a fan of Ryan Gosling, but I'll just stay hopeful and look forward to more Star Wars!!
I never did comment on SW Visions season 3. It wasn't memorable to me. I did enjoy the continuing story of the 9th Jedi, and looking forward to more of that story. I liked maybe 2 others, but overall, it was kinda disappointing and very uneven, like the first season. I think I expected too much after Season 2 was so, so good. But not a huge fan of some of those animation styles, but many are, so happy they had something.
Just started watching Dexter. (it's way more disturbing than I thought it would be...) and saw Sam Witwer in the first season. Reminded me that Maul was coming out next year and CAN"T WAIT!!! I hope it's as awesome as hoped.

That was basically my thought. To expand on it a little, give us a good solid story with compelling and engaging characters that we grow to care about and root for over the course of the movie(s).

@BrianL , Maverick used the trench run from Star Wars, but I remember a conversation (can't remember if it was here or elsewhere) where there were half a dozen movies discussed as possible inspirations for the trench run in Star Wars.
