General Star Wars Discussion

I'm not sure how I feel about this but man a Star Wars movie from Steven Soderbergh would have been really interesting.

I enjoy Soderberg's eye and wit. Adam Driver is the only thing I enjoyed about the recent SW trilogy. But, bringing Ben Solo back sounds like very bad idea. Sort of like more Rey movies bad idea.

Let the past die. Kill it if you have to.

I'd have rather seen a movie that follows Ben Solo from his leaving the Jedi Academy to becoming Kylo Ren. I think that is where they could fill in a few gaps.

I would call it Star Wars: From Ben to Ren. 🤣

There's a comic called The Rise of Kylo Ren that tells that story. It's well-written, but (obviously) pretty dark.

Personally I don't need any more Kylo Ren, but I do want more Ben Solo!

But does it tell the story of how he got that perfect hair and how it stays perfect, even under the helmet? That's what we really need to know!

Yeah, I get tired of genre movie franchises that go, "Oh, look--that character isn't dead after all!"

I do like the idea of more backstory on Ben, though.

This is a franchise that's brought back multiple "dead" characters and featured them in shows or made them the main villain. Darth Maul, Boba Fett, Palpatine. I'd imagine Soderberg could come up with a better reason for Ben to be alive than "somehow Ben Solo returned".

I'm not sad we missed out on a Kylo Ren movie. One of my biggest critiques of TLJ is that it made him a co-lead at the expense of Finn, who, IMO, is a way more interesting character.

That said, one of my biggest critiques of TRoS is that it redeemed Kylo way too late, so we barely got to see Adam Driver acting as a rogue-ish "good" guy. If Kylo had survived, I would have liked to see him actually do the work for a redemption.

Yeah, it feels like a massive missed opportunity to not see what Adam would have done with Ben as a good guy.

But also, I don't think we should have to choose between Ben and Finn! Let's have lots more of both! (Speaking of Finn, The Last Order came out today, so I'm reading that right now!)

The thing is, there was always plenty of backstory as to why/how Palpatine returned, even going back to Legends. The movie just barely mentioned any of it.
