General public booking?

That would be really crummy if they charge $95 for non-DVC WDW resorts on top of the high point requirements. Especially if you are staying there for a short trip.
Sometimes we all need to remember that there ARE other options.

When DDP changes, we don't have to eat onsite. When changes like this occur, we don't have to stay onsite. Why would anyone want to pay an extra $95 to stay onsite for one or two nights?

Save the points and stay elsewhere for less than the fee. It's a great big world out there!

Or, replace DDP with DDE, and use the AP discounts to stay one or two additional nights.

That will work well for AP holders, although they may still be paying a premium to stay onsite. But as long as they're happy, I'm happy.

However, every situation is different. For us, a DVC-discounted AP is $100 more than the Florida resident seasonal pass, and no more useful.

We could buy DDE, but frankly don't really plan on eating onsite enough to make it pay. We always have a car because we live close, so eating offsite is actually a plus for us. We'll do an occasional character meal, but not enough for DDE to be worthwhile.

My point is, though, that there are lots of other options other that what the Mouse offers us.

Yes there are other options. But there are times when you have points left and you want to use them. For example, I have extra points and would like to use them to extend a business trip for 1 or 2 nights (usually last minute). If there isn't any DVC availability, I would like to use them at a WDW hotel rather than letting them go to waste. I don't want to get involved in renting. It just seems that DVC is taking advantage by charging $95 on top of the high point cost that they will turn around and rent through CRO.
