Was anybody watching this guy's press conference on FoxNews (I'm not sure if it was on the other stations). This guy is completely in charge. For those that criticize the rescue operation, ask this guy what's happening. The media, harping on the negative of course, asked him many questions about what wasn't happening or what isn't going right, and he responded forcefully calling it "BS" when someone asked him about the evacuation process. He said that the media is pulling out isolated incidents and harping on them, rather than realizing that the armed forces have evacuated thousands of people. He said that if the system sucked as many on the left and the media believe it does, how could the military have evacuated and fed all of these people. This guy gets it, and is obviously pissed off at the media. I, for one, am going to listen to what the general and the military has to say way before I'm going to listen to the media.

oops, didn't see this one, I posted about him too :teeth:

I'm surprised he's in the Army and not the Marine Corps :teeth:

Being a former Army spouse I can confirm that the Army isn't short of soldiers with hangy-down-things. :)

My dh was actually under him in S. Korea a couple of years ago. When he heard him, he just laughed and said that is just what kind of man he is. Big hangy-down-things! This man does not mess around.

According to dh, once in S.Korea, the General went through the gate and didn't get the proper military greeting fitting a general. He questioned the lower enlisted guy on the gate and found his training to be lacking. Next night staff sgts and above were on gate duty. He said if that didn't seem to help, Lt's would be pulling gate duty!

I heard him yesterday..he's great...media was badgering about why equipment wasnt on stand by there in NO when they knew the hurricane was approaching. He matter of factly told them that the reason that equipment wasnt closer was you dont leave equipment that you are going need later in arms way. They moved it all out of the way, either drove them or flew them out.

I must be missing the inside reference--b/c I was wondering why the heck the general would be speaking of that.

Now I get that it wasn't him who said it. :rotfl2:

He is something, isn't he? Typical military. It's a shame he wasn't there on Tues.

Here we are, the US, in a mess and the military will come to the rescue again. Thank god they are there.

Swing low...sweet chariot... :rolleyes1

Is he not a 'good old down home boy' or what? Through all the hours I've been glued to the television and all the horror I've seen, he made me smile with his press conference. He needs to perhaps kick a** and take numbers with all the boys in suits who thought they knew what they were doing!

I found a picture and information on the general. He's my hero!! :lovestruc

From CNN:
Honore commands the 1st Army, based at Fort Gillem in Forest Park, Georgia, outside Atlanta.

The general is a native of Lakeland, Louisiana, which is northwest of Baton Rouge. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in vocational agriculture from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge in 1971. Honore was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the infantry upon graduation. He also has a master's degree in human resources from Troy State University.

He has served in a number of infantry command positions and at the Pentagon. Before taking command of the 1st Army, Honore commanded the Standing Joint Force Headquarters-Homeland Security, U.S. Northern Command.

Honore's daughter and other relatives live in New Orleans, but he has not seen them since he arrived in town.

"The priority is on this mission, getting these people out of here," he said.

The general came to rescue of one young mother trying to carry her twin babies down the street in the terrible heat and humidity of New Orleans, Starr reported. The mother was so exhausted the children were almost falling out of her arms.

The general went up to the woman and took both of her babies, handing them off to soldiers to carry, as he promised the mother that they were going to get her some help. The troops helped the three hurricane victims to a Coast Guard ship, where they were treated for exhaustion and dehydration.

Honore said he wants his troops' profile in New Orleans to be that of humanitarian relief operations, leaving the law enforcement role to the local police.

I like this guy as well and how he deals with questions is point blank. He tells you like it is and that's it.
