General chit chat thread.

Look at all you lot having slept well. I have been awake since 6pm last night, unfortunately I was working my last night shift in the current batch. I only have 2 more to do this year:woohoo: Since starting this job in April I have done more nights then day shifts:mad:

I do sympathise with you Nikki, I could never works nights as I could never sleep during the day. I used to do different day shift patterns (7am-3pm and then 12noon-8pm) and I hated that, one week getting home in the afternoon and the next getting home near bedtime.

Hope things settle for you soon.

Thanks:goodvibes I have been put on a line now so I have more stability & I know my shifts for the next year or until my transfer comes through. Unfortunately the station i'm at has a rota of approx 60% nights:headache

Oh Bloody great. It's 10.15pm and my DD who is currently doing her mock GCSE's informs me that the scientific calculator which has sat on her shelf in her room for god knows how long with all her books has been thrown away.

To top it all she has her Maths calculator paper at 8.15am tomorrow. Going to have to ring the school in the morning and beg and plead for them to let her borrow one although i don't hold out much hope.:sad2:

Oh no what a nightmare.

Have you got a 24 hour supermarket near you, I am sure my local Tesco stock them so maybe you could pick one up in the morning?

My DS forgot his but the school had spares so worked out OK. I think they're used to kids... ;) Fingers crossed it'll be OK for your DD...

I don't drive and she leaves to get the school bus at 7am.

Apart from ring round a few friends in the morning i don't know what to do, pinning my hopes that the school may help.

Hope your DD manage to get it sorted.

I have a rant in that as my job involves shift work & weekends I meant to receive 25% of my salary extra as unsociable pay. I ave been on the road for 5 months & have not received a penny. I have filled in the paperwork & it was meant to be sorted for this month resulting in getting my back pay next month. Well today is pay day & I just get my basic money:mad: It looks like its going to be even longer before its sorted.

It means I will also pay more in tax & NI. The tax I can claim back but the NI is gone & its going to be a fair amount.

I'm especially angry as I have done loads more nights & weekends as I was on relief covering peoples shifts in the summer whilst they were on leave:headache:

Can't they sort it out now Nikki? I used to do the payroll in my old job & know from first hand experience that mistakes happen & have to be fixed in the same month. You should complain to the HR department.

I'm going to insist that they do, at least so its all on next months pay including the back pay. The only problem is that I have no contact details for HR/Payroll & the stations secretary is off this week. I'm in tomorrow so will try & speak to a team leader. I have done nothing but nights this month so hardly see any Team leaders & depending on what time I finish depends if I see the secretary or not. I know mistakes happen but it shouldn't take 5 months to realise i'm out of training school. My wages slips keep being sent to another station so it takes another 2 weeks for me to receive them:headache:

Thats terrible, you need to be firm with them & demand it is put right immediately. :sad2:

Thats good news:goodvibes I don't mind going to the dentist but I think that is because I have never needed anything do apart from a check up:thumbsup2

I helped a girl at school yesterday who'd hurt herself (turns out she'd cracked a rib - ouch!) Anyway today she gave me a Mickey Mouse thank you card that she'd made on her computer - she knows me so well!!
