Well, after reading so many testimonials on saving money at Geico on this board I bit the bullet and called them for a free quote yesterday and we will definitely be switching this month. We were spending 197 a month for two cars with Progressive, with Geico the first four months we will pay 173 a month and then it goes down to 150 a month for the rest of the plan. YES!!! Hey, every little bit helps.

Yep, I saved over $350 ever six months for our new policy with Geico. And I went over the policy carefully, and it's exactly the same policy I had with Progressive.

Congrats on your savings! :)

I don't have Geico now, but I did have it in the past, and it was great when someone hit my car and took off. Plus you got away from Progressive, which is one of the VERY WORST insurance companies. So congrats!

Has anyone ever had a claim on Geico?

How good are they regarding customer service?

I have used State Farm for years, but dang it is expensive!

I was in an accident last year on my Geico policy. The corporate claims people and customer service people were top notch, couldn't have been any better. However, the local adjuster I got was significantly less than stellar... My car repairs were delayed 4 weeks waiting for her to approve the invoice, causing my rental car coverage to expire, and costing me a month's worth of rental out of pocket to deal with that.

Other than that, I have been extremely satisfied with them.

I just switched to Geico yesterday and my insurance is going from $150 a month to $90! :cool1:

About the customer service--- When we were stationed in the U.K. we had Geico. Our bill was a little amount, so I would just pay extra. I was wondering where our new policy was, and called them. They told me they had cancelled our policy, for non-payment. I was short paying them $15. They never sent me a notice, or called me. While I realize it was my fault for not keeping up what I owed, they let us drive for 6 months with no insurance. They offered to rewrite our policy, for an extra $150 a year. Needless to say we switched companys.

We have had Geico for 8 years. 7 years ago my husband hit a deer and they covered it quickly with no problems. The same month after the deer repair, he tried to stop at a stop sign and slid on solid ice into another car. They repaired the car again with no problems. Very quick. We have not had another accident since then so I can not judge on any recent claims. I did call them recently to inquire if we would qualify for any other discounts. She was very nice and found several discounts that we had over looked! My husband had went up a grade in the gov't and that qualified as a discount! We also have our home through Geico..."Travelers". So that gives the auto some discount.

Most insurance companies use your FICO score to base your premium. Sometimes they will drop you if you have an accident. You will not know it right away but when renewal comes around, watch out!

I have been very happy with Geico

Hey all you Geico fans! We had been longtime AMICA car insurers, then a few years ago, we decided to call GEICO and were shocked at how much lower they were!

Well, got the bug again last year to make some comparisons, and what do you know? AIG came in lower than GEICO. Progressive was higher than both. So, for the past year, we've been AIG customers, and are pleased!

We've had them for over 2 years now, every year I compare rates to other companies and they still remain the best rate.

Also, through GEICO, I switched to Travelers Ins. for my howeowner's policy and saved almost $300 a year with them.

I have not put in a claim for anything, so can't comment there, but their customer service has been pleasant and professional.

Glad you're saving some money by switching :)

Thanks, now I am REALLY glad we switched based on these testimonials. I will check out their homeowners insurance because ours is up in April, thanks for the tip.

I've been insured by Geico since I got my driver's license as a teen! I have shopped around to make sure we're getting the best deal for us, and we are. I had a claim several years ago, and DH has had a couple claims, and Geico has been FANTASTIC. We also have our homeowners insurance through Travelers (owned by or partnered with? Geico)

An interesting note, Geico doesn't like to insure in Florida. When my parents moved there from Virginia, their Geico premiums were going to triple! They called around and got a much better deal. The Geico rep was polite but pretty upfront with them that they prefer not to insure Florida drivers.

Also, we have their emergency road service, and that has bailed me out more times than I can count!

I just talked to a friend of mine today and her Allstate has went up dramatically this year for auto and home. She is very upset with them. They have not had any tickets or claims and their credit is good. But they just bought a house and with their equity out of the house they sold they paid off everything. Well when she called Allstate they said that the increase was based on her credit score. I think her score went down because they just made a huge purchase even though they paid off many many things; those would not show up right away. He told her that when renewal came around that it might go down. I think that is rotten.

Poly, you dropped AMICA? Tell me, is AIG better rated than AMICA? Customer service better? Everything I have read says that AMICA is the highest rated insurance co, not the cheapest, but certainly one of the best. I have had AMICA insurance since 1978 :earseek: . I rarely hear of someone dropping AMICA! Talk to me!!! :wave2:

Muushka - I know, I know my folks are dieheart AMICA customers! We use to have them for both home+property and auto insurance, and they have always been and still are our home+property insurer. Back in the '80s when I first applied for insurance (renter's back then), I remember that they were very selective with whom they'd insure and it "helped" that my parents were good customers.

Guess I'm more price sensitive/less loyal when it comes to auto insurance. We've been pleased with AIG (and before that Geico and before that AMICA) but we haven't had claims/need to call on customer service -- keeping our fingers crossed. :wizard:

Geico pulls up your FICO score.

Yes, I remember I had to have a reference to get AMICA insurance and even then I had to wait a year (back in the 70's).

I hope that AIG works out for you. I am just so afraid to get an insurance co that will not take care of me! I have had some homeowners claims and they were great (even overpaid us $500.00 once-which we returned to them) and they helped us out quite a bit when someone with State Farm ins hit us (that co did not want to pay-so AMICA went after them for us).

Thanks for the prompt answer!

I had heard this years ago about AIG and completely forgot about it. So last night I requested a quote and switched from Nationwide - we will save $650 on our insurance for the next calendar year! WOW!! That's going into the Disney fund!

I'm calling AIG to ask for a Homeowners quote on Monday (they don't do it online) to see if they can beat Nationwide - I suspect that they can since we saw a huge increase in our rate last year.

You guys got me to thinking about auto insurance and saving money. So I went to my money saving guru Clark Howard. This is what he had to say:

Shopping for auto insurance well worth it - June 16, 2004
Shopping for auto insurance can save tons of money, but people aren’t likely to do it because it’s boring and tedious. Consumer CheckBook, a consumer magazine and group, shopped for auto insurance for various demographics in different areas of the country. On average, the most expensive driver cost 400 percent more than the cheapest driver. How could the price differences for the same exact coverage be so extreme? There are a few reasons. People don’t shop around, so insurers know they can jack up the prices and you’ll never check. Another reason is that insurers take different factors more seriously than others do. Credit score, for instance, may be huge with one insurer and not a factor at all with another. So, please shop around. Geiko and Progressive have been pushing people to compare, and they have steadily taken marketshare. Calling an independent agent can also check rates for you. But always start by checking the three best companies: Amica Mutual, USAA and Cincinnati Insurance. You may qualify for one of them. Even if you have to pay a little more, stick with one of these three. It’s worth it. After that, compare everyone else.

Here is the linkHoward's opinion

I'm not sure if this helps anyone :wave2: .
