When I was in jr. high, Dooney and Burke purses were the craze.
My grandma bought me a purse for Christmas.
It was a couple of hundred dollars and I LOVED it.
Mom thought I was too young so I thought I was hot stuff with it.
My daughter will be in 8th grade next year and I was debating getting her a Louis Vuitton bag for her birthday, thinking I could spend a couple of hundred on a purse.

OMG--most of them are over 1,000. I had no idea. :confused3

People pay that much?

I'm not cheap---but it'sn ot important enough to me to buy it for myself and there is no way my kid can have one. I would consider true murder if she lost it! WOW!

ummmmm, i can't imagine even paying $30 for a purse let alone a few hundred. i think the most i've ever spent on a purse is about $15 and i thought that was too much.

Dooney and Bourke bags are all the rage once again...I'd go with that, or just get her a fake LV...there are so many out there if you spent the money on a real one no one would know....I know my 14 year old sister would roll over and die if I bought her a Dooney...maybe one day I will :) :smooth:

Dooney and Bourke has several outlet stores including one at the Premium Outlet Mall just outside of WDW. The prices are much cheaper there then in your regular department store. You can do a search for other D&B outlet stoes at www.outletbound.com If you have a QVC outlet near you they are having a special D&B sale this weekend. All their D&B handbags are an additional 40% off. Several times a year the QVC outlets have a special $99 D&B sale. All their D&B bags are $99 no matter what they are marked. I was able to get a carry-on bag that was originally $295 for $99.

I usually pay about $15 for a purse from Target. The funny thing is my cousin designs handbags for Dooney and Burke (he did the "tassel tote"), so whenever I go to my Aunt's and he's there I always make sure to leave my pocketbook in the car! He's actually offered to get me something from Dooney and Burke at cost, but even that is way out of my price range.

you can get some of the smaller LV's for $500-700....and I've carried Dooney's since high school...I guess I never knew they went out and came back in.....I loved them before LC took over though.

Have the big LV bag-Don't know what its called but cost about 1500.00 8 years ago.
I don't even carry it anymore. The cache is gone now that everyone buys replicas for about 50.00 bucks. The look alikes, for the most part, are darn close to the authentic
LV bags.

Um, no. I wouldn't spend one tenth of that on a purse for myself, let alone my teenage DD.

I purchased the smallest LV bag for my Dsis two years ago it was 250.00. I live close to NY so a knock off is easy to get; Idk where you live. I also teach at a high school and see that they often loose things I would not spend that much they would never know the difference of a real or fake LV

Good Luck!!

As a Coach collector, I must recommend getting her a nice Coach bag. I have carried them since high school, and they come with a lifetime warranty. I love them.

I totally agree. I love my Coaches. If you lucky enough to live near an outlet store you can get them pretty reasonably priced.

My neice (24) gave me some ideas last year for her Christmas gifts and I :rotfl2: when she asked us for LV luggage. She told me that she really could use 3 pieces but she would understand if we only bought 2. My dh and I sat around that evening and just :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: . Needless to say she did NOT get LV luggage. Sometimes you just have to say hmmmmmm.

:cool1: my dd12 has a dooney and burke but we got it at Plato's closet for 30.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! she also has a really cute purse from Pacific sun she got with Christmas money it was 50.00 ! she has taken really good care of both of them.

I have a 10 year old Coach briefcase that badly needs reconditioning, it's been through the wars so to speak. Do you know if you can send bags to Coach to be refurbished?

Yes you can. I worked in Macy's handbags in college. I was always told to advise customers that Coach handbags have a lifetime warranty and you can send it in to them and they will fix or repair your bags for you. I'm sure they'll recondition it too.

have you tried Bag, Borrow or Steal? It is the handbag equivalent of Netflix. You pay a subscription fee and you have the ability of checking about designer bags without the designer cost. Maybe you can get a year's subscription for your daughter and she can change her handbag whenever she wants!

Same here. I don't carry a purse to work or on vacation. I buy one and it will last for quite a while before i replace it with another cheap one.

Once when I was at Kohls A woman in front of me at the cash register bought about 20 purses. Said it was her b-day and she hadn't bought a new purse in a few months and LOVES purses.

I gave my daughter my Coach and she thinks she's all that with it. I was going to by a LV and I was on the list for the Cherry Blossom bag, but when all the knockoffs came out, who the heck wants to spend $1,000 bucks on a bag that everyone is going to think is a knockoff??? I wish there was something that could be done about that because now I will never own a real Louis :-(

I think D&B are adorable, my daughter loves them, however, she gravates to the Coach section everytime we go shopping, she picked out a $300 one the other day, if she gets that, then she's not going to Disney in June as her Jr High graduation, oh the heck she's not, she'll do without the purse (you would think this was my gift, oh wait it is! lol)
