Gee Whiz - I wish I had the time...

although, if I did, I wouldn't waste it on a message board.

I'm amazed at the number of posts some people make on these boards. I'm lucky if I can get in a half hour of reading every couple of days. I figured out the numbers for one poster and for over five years that poster has written an average of 12 posts a day - that's nuts! That's an average of at least one hour a day spent writing - never mind how much time is spent reading - I just don't get it. Who the heck has that kind of time? And, most of the posts are the same thing over and over.

Anyway - I love the disboards, but golly gee whiz - I just can't imagine having that kind of free time and spending it all online. I have so many friends and family that keep me busy all the time - I guess, if I were alone - I don't know. Seems really sad to spend all one's time on a computer with strangers. But, I guess, to each his own. :confused3
I'm a loser...

Interesting perspective. I checked - I average 11.3 posts per day. Of course, that's skewed by the two days I was home sick last week... and the computer IS close to the 'facilities'... :)

Averaging one post every two, or four hours - or even two or ten posts an hour since one joined the DIS? THAT person's concern, not anyone else's.

But we do appreciate the OP's concern for us ;)

You figured that out, huh? You didn't just click on the poster's name and see their statistics - including the one where the site displays the average number of posts per day?

For the record, you don't know how fast I read, or how fast I write, or how I multi-task. You also don't know that I have made ACTUAL - not virtual - friends on the DIS.

But, again, your concern for my time IS appreciated.

I only have 2.10 posts per day here.

The other board I go on, I have 29.60 posts per day :lmao:
You're safe. That other forum doesn't count - the OP isn't aware of it, doesn't belong to it, and so cannot be critical of it (or its participants, or their average daily count). Post on, I say! Post on!

I average .31 posts per day. OP I have more of a life than you do. Where's my trophy?

I don't even have time to read all the responses on this thread - I read the first page and the last page and wow - some of you are just pretty gosh darned thin-skinned and, quite frankly, rude.

Que sera. Carry on. Sorry to have disturbed so many of you with my thoughts. Pretty sad the way those of you on page 1 and page 7 behaved - can't even imagine what happened in between. Wonder if you'd all behave like that in the real world. :sad2:

Well, apparently I have no life from my DIS posting so I didn't know there was a 'real world'..

Also-- since I behaved so badly, does that mean I have to have a virtual time out? :rolleyes1

Wow. I could very easily read and respond to 12 threads within 30 minutes! I could post my own thread, and reply to posters who have responded, all within an hour or less.

A post count doesn't mean the poster type out a novella. They could of just posted a thumbs up :thumbsup2 ; or just typed "MTE"; or gave out a hug

12 posts a day is not call for an intervention, IMO

:rotfl: ::yes:: Starting now.

Sooo who's getting snow tonight? I'm expecting any where from 6-8" which means posting a lot.

Ignoring all posts referring to "snow", "tonight", "Massachusetts", "New England", "weather"...

typing time = less than one minute

Speaking for myself, it is one of a limited number of things that fits easily into life with an infant. If I'm reading/posting here, I'm probably also nursing, burping, or soothing the baby. That takes up a fair bit of my day and I prefer message boards over TV by far! And since most of my more enjoyable hobbies are things that don't work well in a Michigan winter (gardening, hiking, and nature photography - the latter two can be fun in the winter but not with an infant in tow), I've got a lot of time for the boards around this time of year. I won't be so active once the ground thaws and it gets warm enough for me to be gardening and walking with DD.

I think it is interesting to see the difference in reaction to internet vs other time wasters like TV or movies. We don't really think much of someone watching an hour or two worth of TV shows on a daily or near-daily basis, but an hour or two of posting on message boards tends to get a lot more attention/opinons. I watch exactly one TV show a week (Lost). Discussion/debate boards have almost entirely replaced television for me, and give the different nature of the two pursuits (passively watching vs. actively interacting), I think that's a good thing.

Maybe the OP is a "hunt and peck" kind of typer?

Yes! I'm up to 11.31 posts per day! That's 1/100 of one percent, in only about two hours! Yippee!
