We're starting to plan a trip to DLR for August 2012 and there are a couple of things we're not sure about.

We're planning on staying at DLR for 5 nights - Sun-Fri. I'm worried about not being able to get GCV at the 7 mo. mark (which would be 130 pts for a studio).

My original thought was to take my shot at 7 mo. and use point for a room at Paradise Pier as a backup. But PP is 150 points + the $95 fee for a regular room. That seems like a terrible value, and we'd really like to stay at GCV.

Here's my questions?

If I end up w/ a split stay between PP and GCV, would they move my luggage as they do in WDW?

It's been asked before, but what's my shot at landing a GCV studio in August at the 7 mo. mark for 5 nights? for 2 nights?

Am I overthinking this? Should I just take my shot at 7 mo. and use off-site as a backup?

TIA!

I would just take my chances at 7 months and use an off site for back up. Just as an FYI, but hotels at DLR do not impose the $95 booking fee as of now, so you can take that out of your equation. I would make sure to call right at the 7 month mark, first thing in the morning. Good luck :)

Once you book with points at PP, they become reservation points and could not be used for GCV if a room became available.

I have a studio arriving next Sunday that I reserved at 7 months.

I have reserved a studio at GCV at the seven month mark several times with no problems. It is the nicest of all the Disney hotels, IMO. I don't get it either...that PP is more points. Good luck!

I am having a hard time getting GCV for anything more than 2 consecutive nights for the summer. Well, ok, I didn't book it at the 7-month mark. At 5 months, it looks impossible. But 2 nights seems ok if you are somewhat flexible with dates.

I would call exactly at 7 months, per most of the posts here if you do that you chances should be very good. We visted last July and called just past the 7 month mark and there were no studios available. We got a one bedroom and had to adjust our dates by a day. So I do think the key is to call exactly at 7 months. I would WL if you have to, reserving what you can and then use off site as a back up.

DLR is great and VGC gorgeous!! :thumbsup2 Good luck!

Definitely go with an off-site hotel vs. PP. The DLR area is very compact compared to WDW and many of the hotels are within walking distance. Our last visit was at the Candy Cane Inn which is very close and a well-kept property.

I agree with going off site. PP is not worth the points. You can stay closer (walking distance) in an off site hotel. Put yourself on the waitlist then book an off site with the ability to cancel if GCV comes through.
