GCV cash reservations?

I doubt it since GCV owners can't even book until June 7th.

The booking and opening announcement says "Members and Guests may make cash reservations within 60 days of their check-in date".

60 days? That seems odd, it is not like that for all DVC rooms, is it? I have cash room booked at BLT already for New Years Eve. (and BLT is not open yet either)

I agree that it's strange - that's probably why it caught my eye. Maybe it's just short term?

With the small amount of rooms (48), they may want to limit it to 60 days so that they can manage the points inventory better as points are sold and units declared.

My theory:

GCV are a lot smaller than the other DVC resorts. They are also reportedly selling quickly.

That means that there may not be much cash availability from the portion that is still owned by the devloper. They'll want to keep inventory available to declare so that they can keep ahead of sales. Maybe 60 days ahead is all that the developer is willing to commit to cash rentals for the portion it still owns.

DL visitor patterns are different than WDW visitor patterns. Demand is probably higher for long weekends there than it is for WDW.

GCV is new and and promises to be very popular. I suspect members aren't going to be using their points for non-GCV vacations very often, especially at first.

All that means that there may not be much cash availability from unused member inventory either - at least not as much as we're used to getting at the other DVC resorts.

Well, I think a certain % HAS to be available for cash reservations. Although, for some of the smaller resorts, I am not sure why. I thought it was some legal thing.

Nope. Not true.

Disney does retain a small percentage of each DVC resort sold to take care of administrative needs. If the villas represented by that percentage aren't needed for administrative purposes, Disney maychoose to rent them out for cash, but there is absolutely no requirement that they do so.

All of the other ways for rooms to get into the cash inventory require that either a member use points for a non-DVC option or that the developer chooses to rent out some of its inventory. Both of those ways are optional on the part of the member or the developer.

slightly off subject, and not trying to hijack the thread, but what is SoCal weather like in early December? I was thinking of trying to squeeze in a DL trip then (my middle son turns 3 on the 21st of Dec.) if we go in Jan, he is pretty expensive compared to going in dec.

I hate to sound equivocal--but it could be hot, it could be cold; it could be rainy, it could be dry. You just can't tell with SoCal weather that time of year. But the decorations should be up and the crowds won't be so bad (especaiily during the week) as in late December so I say come on out!
