GCV and DL Questions

I've been searching old threads looking for answers to some of the questions I have for the trip I'm planning for next August to DL, and I can't seem to find these. I was wondering if some of the DL experts here could help.

We'll be spending a week in Sedona before driving to DL. We're planning on flying into Phoenix and out of Orange County after our DL stay if it all works out. We'll be renting a car at PHX.

The two most pressing questions I have are "Will we need a car at DL?" and "Is there a parking fee at GCV or either of the other DL hotels?" We'll be using our DVC points for as many nights as we can swing at the 7 month window, and possibly tacking on a few days at either PP, DLH, or an off site hotel if there's days that are booked up. I'd hate to spend the money for 6 or 7 days worth of rental car we're not going to use and then pay a parking fee on top of that.

Thanks for any help!

There is no parking fee if you are staying on DVC points either at VGC or at either of the hotels (DLH or PPH). I don't think you need a car as long as you are at Disneyland (though it might be nice for a grocery run if you're staying awhile). If you're planning on exploring other SoCal attractions, you will need a car as other forms of transportation are generally inconvenient at best.

If all you are doing is DLR you most definitely do not need a car. And staying at the GCH means you will only need your feet the whole time. It is a pretty cool aspect of DLR.

:wizard:

We just spent 3 days at the resort and didn't need the car once. Maybe if we had spent 5 days that would have been different.

If I rented a car in Phoenix, are there locations within walking distance of GCV to drop it off? I think I read that there is an Alamo at DTD. Are there any others?

We spent three nights/four days at DLR in June and didn't even think about our parked car :). Yay that parking is included with points stays, because otherwise it is $15/day right now! We will be there for five nights/six days next summer and don't plan to use a car at all, though we may fly into Orange County and out of San Diego, in which case we will have to rent a car at the end of our DLR stay.

We haven't rented/returned a car onsite before, but the concierge desks at any of the hotels will probably be able to tell you which companies are close by.

I recently rented from Avis on Katella and they provided free shuttle service back to my hotel (DLR). They said they have pick up service also. The car was an excellent value I think $30/ day. A brand new (13 miles on it) Chev. Impala. Service was great! I will def. rent from them again!!

Just wanted to say Hi! I'm in KFalls! Thanks for that info, I was thinking there must be a shuttle.

About the DVC parking - I remember being charged $12 a day when we stayed on points - I asked for the free DVC parking and they didn't know anything about it. :confused3 Maybe they are better educated about DVC perks now.

Just verifying that yes, there is an Alamo right at DTD.
